ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Teacher writes Everest, Amazon, Sahara on the board with the
letters in the wrong order. Teacher tells students that one of these
is a well-known desert, one an enormous river and one a very high
mountain. Students work in pairs and write the correct spelling for
each word.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity 1 (SB page 42)
1. Students read the text. Teacher plays the CD. Students
repeat the words in blue chorally and individually.
Teacher makes sure they pronounce island correctly and
point out that s is silent.

pairs and write the sentences in the correct order.

and complete the sentences using comparative and
superlative forms. Teacher encourages students to look
back at the text in the previous lesson to help them.
2. They compare answers in pairs. Teacher checks answers
as a class. Teacher points out 2-syllable adjectives ending
in y-change to –ier in the comparative form and –iest in
the superlative form.
