Practice Problem 1

A car travels with an initial speed of 80 km/h and accelerates at 5500

km/hr2 along a straight road. How long will it take to reach a speed of 130
km/h. Also, through what distance does the car travel during this time?

Practice Problem 2

A man rides electric motorcycle starts from rest and after traveling along a
straight path a distance of 25 m reaches a speed of 27 km/h. Determine his
acceleration if it is constant. Also, how long does it take to reach the speed
of 27 km/h?

Practice Problem 3
1
A particle moves in a straight line having a position of 𝑠 = 𝑡 3 − 4𝑡 2 + 12𝑡 m, where t
3

is in seconds. Determine the position of the particle when t = 3 s and the total distance it
travels during the 6-s time interval.
Hint: Plot the path to determine the total distance traveled.

Practice Problem 4
An intercity train starts from rest at station Gambir and accelerates at 0.5
m/s2 for 2 min. Afterwards, it travels with a constant velocity for 10 min. If
then decelerates at 2 m/s2 until it is brought to rest at station Manggarai.
Determine the distance between the stations.

Practice Problem 5
A particle has velocity of 𝑣 = 6 𝒊 + 6 − 4𝑡 𝒋 𝑚/𝑠, where t is in seconds. If
r = 0 when t = 0, determine the displacement of the particle during the
time interval 𝑡 = 2 𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑡 = 4 𝑠.

Practice Problem 6
A particle has a velocity of 𝑣 = 15 𝑡 2 𝒊 + 8𝑡 3 𝒋 + 5𝑡 − 4 𝒌 𝑚/𝑠, where t
is in seconds. If the particle is at the origin when t = 0, determine the
magnitude of the particle’s acceleration when t = 3 s. Also, what is the x, y, z
coordinate position of the at this instant?

Practice Problem 7
When a car starts to round a curved road with the
radius of curvature of 800 m, it is traveling at 70
𝜌 = 800 𝑚
m/s. If the car’s speed begins to decrease at a rate
of 𝑣ሶ = −0.06𝑡 2 m/s2, determine the magnitude
of the acceleration of the car when it has traveled
a distance of s = 900 m after 10 s.

Practice Problem 8

A particle is moving along a circular path having a radius of 8 m such that

its position as a function of time is given by θ = cos 2t, where θ is in
radians and t is in seconds. Determine the magnitude of the acceleration
of the particle when 𝜃 = 45 0.

Practice Problem 12
Two boats leave the shore at the same time
and travel in the directions shown. If 𝑉𝐴 =
30 𝑚/𝑠 and 𝑉𝐵 = 25 𝑚/𝑠, determine the
velocity of a boat A with respect to boat B.
How long after leaving the shore will the
boats be 1000 𝑚 apart?

Practice Problem 13
The ship travels at a constant speed of 𝑉𝑠 = 𝑉𝑠 = 25 𝑚/𝑠

25 𝑚/𝑠 and the wind is blowing at a speed of 𝑉𝑤 = 20 𝑚/𝑠

𝑉𝑤 = 20 𝑚/𝑠, as shown. Determine the

magnitude and direction of the horizontal
component of velocity of the smoke coming
from the smokestack as it appears to a
passenger on the ship.
