QUIZ ASSIGNMENT NO. 1

Subject: Dynamics of Rigid Bodies (MECH02) Topic: Motion and Projectile

1. Determine a particle's position at time t = 8.7 sec if a = 3.74 ft/s2 to the left and v0 = 22.44 ft/s to
the right at time s0 = 0.
2. A car is moving at 8160 km/hr2 along a straight road at an initial velocity of 95.20 km/hr. How
much time will it take to obtain 163.20 km/hr? Also, how far does the car travel during this time
period?
3. According to tests, it takes a perfectly natural driver about 0.9375 second to react to a situation
in order to avoid colliding with another vehicle. A driver with 0.125% liquor in his system takes
about 3.75 seconds to perform the same action. If such drivers are moving at 37.5 mph on a
straight road and their vehicles can reduce speed at 2.5 ft/s2, calculate the shortest maximum
braking distance d for each from the instant they see the travelers. (10pts.)
4. At station A, a train begins motionless and accelerates for 85.20 seconds at 0.71 m/s2. After that,
it moves at a constant speed for 21.30 minutes. Thereafter, it slows down by 1.42 m/s2 until station
B, where it comes to a stop. Find the distance between the stations.
5. The snowboarder is seen to exit ramp A
at an angle of 30° with the horizontal. Find
his initial speed Va and the duration of flight 4.8m
tab if he hits the ground at B.

120m
6. Find the shortest amount of time before the dart hits the target if it is thrown at a speed of 15.76
m/s. If the dart be thrown, at what corresponding angle θa it should be, and what should its speed
be when it hits the target?
6.304m
7. The speed of the falling water discharged from the orifice can be calculated using v = 2ℎ,
where h = 2m, is the orifice's depth from the surface of the free water. Calculate the duration
required for a particle of water to leave the orifice and travel the horizontal distance x before
hitting the surface.
