Benefits of MPR Distillation: -


Since the analyzer column operates under vacuum, the formation

of by-products such as acetal may minimize there by improvement


in quality of alcohol.

Pre-rectification column ensure removal of sulfur compounds


/mercaptans and also reduces load of lower boiling volatile

compounds passing on to Rectifier cum exhaust column.


The chances of scaling due to invert solubility of certain

precipitating inorganic salts are minimized in vacuum distillation.


Vacuum distillation requires low steam consumption with reboiler

i.e. 2 Kg/lit. of Recited Spirit and around 3.2 Kg/lit. of ENA

Analyzer cum degasser column-
Fermented wash from beer heater is preheated in pre-heater (PHE)

and fed at the top of the degasser column, Analyzer column operate under
vacuum and reboiler is at the bottom of the column. The shell side of the

reboiler heated by alcoholic vapours of rectification column top, which heats

the analyzer column liquid which is in tube side and alcoholic vapours of
shell side condensed and collected in rectifier reflux tank and again sent to

rectifier column top by pumps. The feeded fermented wash in degasser


column cum analyser column flows downward and heated, alcoholic

Pre-rectifier column-
Top alcoholic vapors of analyzer column are feeded to pre-rectifier
column bottom. Pre-rectifier column operates under vacuum; low boiling

Rectifier cum exhaust column is operated under pressure (Bottom
1.72 and top 1.42 kg/cm') and heats column through reboiler by using steam,
steam pressure (app. 2.2 Kg/cm*) is provided to the shell side of the reboiler

(Bottom temp. of column 129 C and top temp. 100"C).

Fusel oil concentration column-


Fusel oil concentration column is operated under pressure (Bottom
143 and top 1.35 kg/cm) and heats FOC column by low pressure steam
(0.5Kg/cm) through reboiler (Bottom temp. 120'c and top temp. 90°C).
Feed to the column at bottom- PRC LFO and HFO and RC decanter water

collected in tank- LFO/ HFO collection tank.


At the middle of column draw of LFO& HFO, sent to fusel oil cooler
to decanter, where separation of fusel oil by soft water. The decanter bottom
alcoholic water again recycled back to the FOC column for removal alcohol
through collection tank. The column bottom spentlees drain out. Top

vapours of FOC column heated the Aldehyde column reboiler and


condensed liquid again reflux to the FOC column.
