Master Exercise : The Pan Handle


Step (1): Importing the Part to mold
In this step, you will: Access workbench Core & Cavity Design Create a new Product Select the Part to import Select the relevant surface inside this Part Define an Axis System Apply shrinkage factor 1. Enter workbench Assembly Design to create a new Product. 2. Ensure this Product is active and enter workbench Core & Cavity Design :

3. Import the Part : a. Click icon Import Molded Part

b. Select file \MasterExercise\Step1\PanHandleCATPart

c.

Make sure selected body is Open_body.1 and selected surface is Surface.1

d. Select Bounding box center as origin of the Local Axis System and define shrinkage as Scaling Ratio=1.05

e. Validate Import operation.

Step (2): Defining Main Pulling Direction


In this step, you will define the Main Pulling direction for the Part.

1. Load existing Product \MasterExercise\Step2\Product1.CATProduct and select workbench Core & Cavity Design 2. Click icon Define pulling direction

3. Click anywhere on the Part in the 3D viewer

4. Move the compass in various directions to see the effect on the result. 5. Change the value of the draft angle to se the effect on the result

Core & Cavity Design 6. Activate option AutoSplit and check the location of the Parting Line. 7. Click button Reset in dialog box Main Pulling Direction Definition. Validate.

Step (3): Transferring faces


In this step, you will: Transfer faces from Open_body Other to Open_Body Cavity Transfer faces from Open_body Other to Open_Body Core Transfer faces from Cavity and Core to Other.

1. Load existing Product \MasterExercise\Step3\Product1.CATProduct and select workbench Core & Cavity Design 2. Click icon Transfer an element

3. Select Cavity as Destination and pick the blue faces located on the top side of the handle. (above the Parting Line). Validate.

4. Click icon Transfer an element. Select Core as Destination and pick the blue faces located on the lower side of the handle (under the Parting Line). Validate.

5. Click icon Transfer an element. Select Other as Destination. Transfer all green and red faces located in the undercut area at the extremity of the handle. Validate.

Step (4): Creating a Slider Pulling Direction


In this step, you will: Create an additional Pulling Direction to locate a Slider at the extremity of the handle. Transfer faces to complete this Slider contact area. 1. Load existing Product \MasterExercise\Step4\Product1.CATProduct and select workbench Core & Cavity Design. 2. Create the Slider Pulling Direction :

a. Click icon Analyze slider lifter direction:

b. Drag and drop the compass along the axis of the circular hole

c.

Click anywhere on the blue area. If necessary, click button Reverse to ensure the compass is oriented towards the outside of the handle. Validate.

3. Click icon Transfer an Element. Select Slider/Lifter as Destination. Transfer all blue faces located in the undercut area. Validate.

Step (5): Splitting a face between mold areas


In this step, you will: Create wireframe geometry to split a face between Split a face between Slider and Core to refine the contact surface of the Slider. The final result is available as \MasterExercise\Step5\End\Product1.CATProduct.

1. Load existing Product \MasterExercise\Step5\Product1.CATProduct and select workbench Core & Cavity Design. 2. Create splitting geometry : a. Create a new Open_body in the Part :

b. Hide Open bodies Core, Cavity and Slider. Show Body PartBody.

Click icon Create line. Define a line of type Tangent to curve, using as support element the edge and vertex as shown. Pick the face as support surface. Validate.

d. Create another line in the same way on the other side of the square hole.

e. Create a Join with these two lines. Mae sure to unselect option Check connexity. Validate.

3. Hide PartBody. Show Core, Cavity and Slider/Lifter.

4. Split the face : a. Click icon Split Mold Area.

b. Pick the front face as Element to Cut. Pick the Join of lines as Cutting Element.

c.

Click button Switch Destination to invert the distribution of resulting split faces. Validate.
