A PEEK IN THE PAST
EVOLUTION OF THE WEB
EVOLUTION OF THE WEB

• In 1989, TIM BERNERS

- LEE, a British scientist,
invented the WORLD
WIDE WEB (WWW)
or simply the WEB.
THE WORLD WIDE WEB

• It is an OPEN-SOURCE INFORMATION SPACE

where documents (formatted and annotated using
HTML and other web resources) are identified by
URLs interlinked using hypertext links and accessed
via the Internet.
THE WORLD WIDE WEB

• It is considered as central
to the development of
the Information Age and
used as a primary tool of
people to interact with
the Internet.
GROUP ACTIVITY:
• Create a group composed of at least 5
members.
• Share your personal experience on how the
current technology have empowered you or
will empower you in the future.
THE WEB TECHNOLOGIES

• STATIC WEB/WEB 1.0

• DYNAMIC WEB/WEB 2.0
• SEMANTIC WEB/WEB 3.0
• MOBILE WEB/WEB 4.0
• OPEN, LINKED AND
INTELLIGENT WEB /WEB 5.0
WEB 1.0 – STATIC WEB

• Also known as FLAT page or STATIONARY page -

page is “AS IS” and cannot be manipulated by the user.
• Web 1.0 is simply an INFORMATION PORTAL
where users passively receive information without being
given the opportunity to post reviews, comments, and
feedback
WEB 2.0 – DYNAMIC WEB

• It was introduced in the year 2004.

• The term was originally coined by DARCY DINUCCI
in 1999 and then defined by tech moguls TIM
O’REILLY and DALE DOUGHERTY
• Known as “Read-Write Web”, “Web of
Interaction” and “Participative Web”
WEB 2.0 – DYNAMIC WEB

• Facilitates interaction between web users and sites, so

it allows users to interact more freely with each other.
• Examples of Web 2.0 include social networking sites,
blogs, wikis, video sharing sites, hosted services,
and web applications.
WEB 2.0 – ITS FEATURES

• FOLKSONOMY
• Allowing users to categorize and classify/arrange information using freely
chosen keywords (e.g., tagging)

• RICH USER EXPERIENCE

• Content is dynamic and is responsive to user’s input

• LONG TAIL
• Services are offered on demand rather than on a one-time purchase
WEB 2.0 – ITS FEATURES

• USER PARTICIPATION
• Others are able to place a content of their own by means of comment,
reviews, and evaluation.

• SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE
• Allows users to “rent” a software for a minimal fee.

• MASS PARTICIPATION
• Web 2.0’s content is based on people from various cultures.
TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA

1. Social Networks. These are sites that allow you to

connect with other people with the same interests or
background. Facebook and Google+
2. Bookmarking Sites. These are sites that allow you to
store and manage links to various websites and resources.
