Introduction

General
This Guide describes how to install the WSCAD SUITE software.
You can perform the installation in the following ways:
 Installation via an Internet download (standard procedure):
You have received an email from WSCAD with a link for the Internet download.
 Installation with a WSCAD USB stick:
You have received the WSCAD USB stick from WSCAD.
 Installation from a directory or via a USB stick:
You or your system administrator have saved the installation files in a directory or on a USB stick.
This is useful when installing on several PCs.
The WSCAD SUITE software can be installed on a standalone PC (see Installation on standalone PC) or in
a network (see General information on network installations).

New installation
You are installing the WSCAD SUITE with a new license. There is no previous version available.
To do this, you have the following options:
 New installation of the WSCAD SUITE X with software copy protection (default)

15
WSCAD SUITE X Installation and Licensing

WSCAD SUITE locally and WSCAD data on the server

In this scenario, the WSCAD SUITE is installed locally on each client PC. The WSCAD data is located on the
Windows server. It is thus available to all users in the network and is maintained centrally.

Procedure
1. The WSCAD SUITE is installed locally on each client PC as a "standalone installation" with the "default
WSCAD installation settings" (see Installation on standalone PC). For the installation, you need
Windows admin rights on the client PCs. The user needs Read, Write and Delete rights for the WSCAD
installation directory on the client PC.
2. The desired WSCAD data directories must be moved from the WSCAD installation directory to the
Windows server. It is recommended not to change the names of the directories. The directories must be
shared for the clients (Read, Write and Delete rights).
3. On a client PC, the data directory must be changed in the WSCAD SUITE under Tools | Settings
(options) | Directories to the server directory to which the WSCAD data has been moved.

16
Network installation

4. The directories for the temporary files and the help files must remain local.

5. On this client PC, the WSCAD configuration settings, including the just changed directory paths, must
now be exported via Tools | Import/export settings | Export. All projects should be closed when doing
this.
6. These WSCAD configuration settings should then be imported to each client PC. All directories will thus
be switched to the server directory.

Licensing
The CodeMeter drivers and the CodeMeter Control Center required for licensing are installed on the client
PCs along with the installation.
There are two variants for licensing:
 Local licensing
Each client PC contains a CodeMeter container with a local license.
 Network licensing
The CodeMeter container with the network license is located on any PC that is always switched on in
the network (e.g., Windows server or license server).
The network license must be released for the network via the CodeMeter Control Center on the server
(see the section "Enabling the server PC as a dongle server" under CodeMeter settings during server
operation).
On each client PC, the connection to the CodeMeter container must be set up via the CodeMeter
Control Center. This is done by entering the IP address in the WebAdmin software of the CodeMeter
Control Center in the server search list (see the section "Entering the dongle server on the client PC"
under CodeMeter settings during server operation).
In this scenario, you can also borrow licenses if you have purchased a UFC license.

17
WSCAD SUITE X Installation and Licensing

WSCAD SUITE and WSCAD data on the server

In this scenario, the WSCAD SUITE and the WSCAD data are stored on the Windows server. The WSCAD
data is available to all users in the network and is maintained centrally. A WSCAD SUITE update must only
be performed on the Windows server.

Procedure
1. The WSCAD SUITE is installed on the Windows server as a "WSCAD network installation" (see
Installation on server PC). The installation requires Windows admin rights. The WSCAD installation
directory must be shared for the clients (Read, Write, and Delete rights).
2. On each client, the WSCAD SUITE is installed as a "WSCAD client network installation". You can
perform this installation with or without WSCAD admin rights (see Installation on client PC with WSCAD
admin rights or Installation on client PC without WSCAD admin rights). With WSCAD admin rights,
users can change not only the user-specific and project-specific settings, but also the program-specific
(= application-specific) settings. They can also perform a software update if they have Windows admin
rights for the Windows server.
The following steps only need to be performed if the WSCAD data directory should not be located in the
WSCAD installation directory but in another directory on the Windows server or on another network drive:
3. The desired WSCAD data directories must be moved from the WSCAD installation directory to the
WSCAD data directory. It is recommended not to change the names of the directories. The directory
must be shared for the clients (Read, Write and Delete rights).
4. On the Windows server, the data directory must be changed in the WSCAD SUITE under Tools |
Settings (options) | Directories to the server directory to which the WSCAD data has been moved.

18
Network installation

5. The directories for the temporary files and the help files must remain local.

Attention: A client PC on which the WSCAD installation was performed with WSCAD admin rights can
change the directory paths. These changes are stored on the server and then apply to all clients!

Licensing
The CodeMeter drivers and the CodeMeter Control Center required for licensing are installed on the
Windows server along with the installation. The CodeMeter driver on the server and the client PCs must all
have same status.
There is only one option for licensing:
 Network licensing
The CodeMeter container with the network license is located on any PC that is always switched on in
the network (e.g., Windows server or license server). When using a hardware dongle in a virtual
environment, a dongle server is recommended.

19
WSCAD SUITE X Installation and Licensing

Remote desktop connection

The WSCAD SUITE can run as a local installation on a Citrix server. The client PCs set up a remote desktop
connection to the server. Via an application, the client has direct access to the WSCAD SUITE on the server.
The client works directly on the server from the PC.
The basis is a Windows server. This server can also be run as a virtual machine. Remote access must be
allowed on the server. A special program for remote access to the server is started on the client. This
requires Citrix programs to be installed on the server and client side (Citrix server, Citrix receiver). The
connection is made via the ICA protocol.
For the best possible functionality, it is recommended that the latest Citrix software be used.
The Windows Terminal Server is not supported!

Procedure
1. The WSCAD SUITE is installed on the server as a "single user local installation" (see Installation on
standalone PC).
2. The Citrix server software is installed on the Windows server.
3. Remote access is enabled on the Windows server.
4. The Citrix client software is installed on the client PCs.

Licensing
The CodeMeter drivers and the CodeMeter Control Center required for licensing are installed on the
Windows server along with the installation.
There is only one option for licensing:
 Network licensing
The CodeMeter container with the network license is located on the Windows server. When using a
hardware dongle in a virtual environment, a dongle server is recommended.
The network license must be released for the network via the CodeMeter Control Center on the
Windows server (see "CodeMeter settings during server operation | Enabling the server PC as a
dongle server" in the Installation Guide).

WSCAD Admin Rights

All users are automatically created with WSCAD admin rights, i.e., they can also change program-specific
(application-specific) settings in addition to the user-specific and project-specific settings. Furthermore, they
can perform a software update if they have Windows admin rights for the Windows server.
It is possible to revoke the WSCAD admin rights for all users already created. In addition, it is also possible
to create all new users without WSCAD admin rights. If this is desired, please contact WSCAD Global
Business Services (GBS, [email protected]).

20
Network installation

Installation on server PC
For a network installation, the files required for the server access are first installed in a separate directory on
the server PC. After this step, the WSCAD SUITE is installed on the client PCs. In the network, there is a
dongle for all users (clients). The dongle can be attached to the server PC as well as any of the client PCs.
The dongle driver on the server PC and the client PCs must all have same status.
The server installation is performed independently of the CodeMeter dongle. The installation of the
CodeMeter software and the necessary settings are then performed separately (see Installing the
CodeMeter software). Further settings and information for the CodeMeter can be found in the section
"CodeMeter Software" under Control center and WebAdmin,
The setup transfers local configurations and OCX files to the client PCs. The individual user has a simple
configuration on his or her local Windows system.

Notes
Pay attention to the rights required to create directories and copy files. In case of doubt, contact your system
administrator.
A separate network drive can be optionally set up for the WSCAD SUITE directory. In other words, this is not
mandatory for the functionality.

CodeMeter settings during server operation

If you have installed the WSCAD SUITE on a server PC and the client PCs on the network need to query the
CodeMeter dongle, some settings must be made in the CodeMeter WebAdmin of the server PC and the
client PCs.

Entering the dongle server on the client PC

This setting must made on all client PCs!
In the Server Search List you enter the host names or IP addresses of the network servers in the LAN/WAN
that have CodeMeter dongles. The client PCs send their requests directly to the network servers entered
here. This increases performance in the network.
Note: If the server is on a different subnet, you should always enter the IP address of the server to prevent
UDP broadcast issues.
Prerequisite: WebAdmin has been started.
1. Click on the Settings tab and select the item Basic | Server Search List in the drop-down menu.
2. Click on add new server, enter the host name or IP address and click Add.
3. Repeat the above step for additional servers.

4. Finally, click Apply.

5. Stop and start the CodeMeter service in the Control Panel on the client PCs (see CodeMeter Control
Center, section "Stopping/Starting the CodeMeter service").

WSCAD SUITE X Installation and Licensing

Licensing

Licensing - General
The licensing of the WSCAD software depends on whether you are using software or hardware copy
protection (silver dongle or mini dongle). The WibuKey dongle is no longer supported.
For new licenses, the WSCAD SUITE is supplied by default with software copy protection and a new UFC
(Universal Firm Code) license. A hardware dongle is no longer necessary. If a hardware dongle of a previous
version already exists, it can still be used. However, some older models of the CodeMeter dongle do not
support the new UFC licenses.
The software copy protection (CodeMeterAct) and the CodeMeter dongles use a CodeMeter container in
which the licenses are stored. UFC licenses can be borrowed from one CodeMeter container to another
CodeMeter container. It does not matter in this case whether the containers are on a PC or on a CodeMeter
dongle (see Borrowing a WSCAD SUITE License).
The licensing can be done
 at the first start of the WSCAD SUITE
When you start the WSCAD SUITE for the first time after the installation, the Starter dialog will open.
If no CodeMeter containers with current licenses are found locally or on the network, the WebDepot
page will appear, where you can enter your ticket number (product key, license key).
If current licenses are found in the CodeMeter container locally or on the network, the regular Starter
dialog is displayed with the WSCAD software packages and the add-ons of the licenses found. In this
dialog, you must click on the WebDepot button within 5 seconds. You can then enter your ticket
number (product key, license key) there.
See License activation on starting the WSCAD SUITE for the first time.
 Via the WebDepot
You can also use the WebDepot to perform the licensing. To do this, you will need your ticket number
(product key, license key). If you are using a software copy protection, you can also access other
functions (such as rehosting or restoring licenses) here.
See License activation via WebDepot.
For term-based licenses, four weeks before the expiry of the licence, you will receive a note indicating the
remaining validity period of the license when you start the WSCAD SUITE.

Software copy protection

When using the software copy protection (CodeMeterAct), a CodeMeter container is set up on the PC during
the license activation. The container contains the licenses.
You can use the WebDepot to activate and deactivate the licenses with your 25-digit product key (ticket
number, license key) See License activation via WebDepot) and License deactivation via WebDepot,
respectively). This requires an Internet connection.
For licensing without an Internet connection, see License activation without an Internet connection.

Hardware copy protection

When using a CodeMeter dongle, the hardware dongle contains the CodeMeter container with the licenses.
You can use the WebDepot to activate the licenses with your 25-digit product key (ticket number, license
key). See License activation via WebDepot). This requires an Internet connection.
For licensing without an Internet connection, see License activation without an Internet connection.

WSCAD SUITE Starter dialog

The WSCAD SUITE Starter dialog shows all the CodeMeter containers found on the network and on the
local PC and the current licenses of the software packages and their add-ons contained in them. The used
and available licenses are displayed.
Before the WSCAD SUITE starts, you can activate and deactivate the individual Add-Ons in the Starter
dialog.
The license that you start will then no longer be available in the network. When you close WSCAD SUITE,
the license is released again.
The following symbols indicate the possible copy protection variants:
