    NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE SCHOOL WATCHING AND HAZARD MAPPING

    Strengthening disaster prevention, mitigation, and preparedness is one of the


    key strategies to address vulnerabilities of children inside and outside the school. With
    the increasing effects of climate change, it is important to raise the awareness and
    capacities of children to prepare for and manage possible disasters and/or
    emergencies. Children are vulnerable in different hazards and they must equipped
    with the capacity to know, understand and apply safety and protection mechanisms to
    build the foundation of their resilience.
    The student-led school watching and hazard mapping are initial steps in
    engaging learners in disaster preparedness and management. This activity will raise
    awareness and equip learners with information and skills necessary for addressing
    the impact of hazards.
    In view of this, Parang National High School initiated with the SSG Officers, led
    the School Watching and Hazard mapping last November 15, 2020. The team
    composed of 10 students. Before the mapping, the team discussed first the
    background and purpose of the activity. They evaluated the 24 classrooms of PNHS.
    As they evaluated the classrooms, they met some hazard factors at risk areas. After
    they evaluated, they consolidated the results. They presented the results to the
    School Head.
