Lesson:
PARTS AND WHOLE IN CREATIVE IMAGINATION

When we think about parts and whole,

we could think of bike parts that complete a
bike to run, a battery that provides power
supply to a mobile phone, or a computer that is
composed of monitor, hard drive, mother board
and others. If one part does not function
accordingly, the entire system might not work or
could be at risk. Thus, the job of every part is
crucial in the entire whole as the whole holds
https://www.pinterest.ph/pin/377809856212399133/
each part together to justify its function for a
general result. While parts-and-whole idea is realizing us how everything is
interconnected to each other, we should also come to appreciate its potential
outcome through creative imagination. Here, we could reflect upon the value of
patience in the process of connecting ideas and forming innovative concepts.
Creative imagination can bring every piece of things into a masterpiece
to better serve the community and even deliver it to the global arena. In the book
of Sonia Sygaco, Through the Looking Glass, Trends, Networks, and Critical
Thinking in the 21st Century, she stated that creative imagination offers
opportunity and allows thinkers to integrate the parts of a whole such as
technology, culture, science, and business altogether. Through globalization,
the new invention or innovated product/service is distributed to all its potential
markets worldwide. The pace of its development is so fast and the distribution is
so magnified that globalization turns the world to an open market. Likewise, it is
easy to spot if a creation is successful or not by the trends and buying power of
the consumers. Social network becomes a powerful tool in advertising and every
new, old product can really be gauged with the statistic available by market
research. She added that creative imagination allows the developer or creator to
improve the weakness of a product and thereby will provide solutions to it by
going back to the consumers and asking the reasons why the product is inferior
in some aspects. The research team who are think tanks definitely will
incorporate all the suggestions from the consumers and come out with a better
product or service. The product or service goes through a series of quality
assurance tests to truly achieve perfection.
Furthermore, creative imagination makes the thinkers of the product or
service to have a foresight of possible threats or expansion of the creation. This
will determine whether these parts such as the various sectors are willing to take
the risk of matching the quality between competitors. Data collection from the
market survey will answer what the market really needs and what problems or
advantages may occur in the future.

ORIGINS OF THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS

To deepen our quest in understanding the parts and whole in creative

imagination, we should attempt to map the origins of the different components
for this enables us get a grasp of the innovations nowadays specifically in
technological advancement. Communities today rely so much on the support of
technology and this even drive the course of people’s ideas and community life.
In the Philippines, manufacturing companies like of cars, machines,
gadgets, appliances, and others are sourcing its components from different
places of origins to obtain lower costing and
maximum profit. In other words, mobile
phone brand names such as Samsung,
Huawei, Vivo, and the like may be made in a
certain country but in the process, its parts
are originating from different parts of the
world. According to the Washington Post
Magazine, one of the raw material
components inside the battery of our mobile
phones and laptops is cobalt and 60% of

working and exposed to dangers. Here, we d885fc46c41745b3b5de550c70336c1b382931d2

could see not only places of origins but also social issues behind in the making
of mobile phones. This different origin of components helps us trace not only the
source of components of products but also the prevailing social injustices
happening everywhere and affecting every life including innocent children.
Ironically, their innocence and suffering have become an essential component of
the mobile phones we enjoy to use nowadays.

In the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a huge turning point
in the origin of components as transportation of goods are immensely affected,
shift of learning delivery mode from face-to-face class to online class, and
establishments are ordered to stop its operations. With these unbecoming
incidents, there has been a change of demand in the market. Due to community
restrictions, online markets, online banking, cashless transactions are growing
fast and food deliveries like Grab, Food Panda, Maxims, and others suddenly
become the face in the food business. As virtual transactions surge, demands in
mobile phones and computers drastically soar high.

In the case of Overseas

Filipino Workers (OFW), they are
also considered as essential
component being the human
capital in the economy. Their
services in other countries as
company laborer, driver, hotel
staff, cook, hospital supervisor,
doctor, housewife, construction
worker, and others fill up the
discrepancy of human capital
abroad. More so, they globalize https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Global-mapping-of-overseas-Filipinos-
Filipino heritage as they bring our

value system, belief, and culture.
However, this labor migration has downside on the part of the Filipino
community due to the loss of skills and expertise to serve their own country.
Given the fact that large area of land in the Philippines is agricultural
and it is also embracing technology as essential tool in delivering goods and
services to community, we should know how manufacturing process is being
undertaken upon identifying the origin of components. Below are the
manufacturing processes of industrial, technological, and agricultural products.
Detailing the processes in industrial products (machinery, manufacturing
plants, materials and parts used by other firms or industries); Agricultural
products are food (grains, cereal crops, meat and dairy products, honey and
farmed fish), fuel (ethanol from corn, sugarcane or sorghum), fibers (crops such
as cotton, wool, and silk as well as hemp and bamboo), and lastly raw materials
(livestock feed); technological products (gadgets, vehicles, home appliances,
pharmaceutical and medical products, warfare products, and among others).
