RIZWOODS COMMUNITY EXTENSION PROGRAM
I. RATIONALE
The extension program is an essential component of quality education. It imparts skills and technological
training to many of those who have limited access to formal education.
Guided by the mission and vision of Rizwoods Colleges Liloan Campus Inc, zeal and communion in
service, In coordination with Lamac Community Development Center is at the forefront of building
partnership with Basak Cabreros, San Nicolas Cebu City that are in need of support in achieving social
awareness

Cebu City as the target beneficiary of its different outreach program and activities.
Rizwoods Maritime Education involves students in organized community service. It is RME pedagogy of
teaching by which students learn and develop through active participation in
organized community service. RME is dedicated to meeting local community needs, while developing
their academic skills, civic responsibility and commitment to the community.
II. OBJECTIVES
1. Provide professional and community service that would respond to the economic, political,
socio- cultural aspects of a person’s life;
2. Establish people’s organization that would seek to empower themselves and become
responsible and productive citizens; and
3. Build linkages and coordinate with non- government, government agencies and local
government units in order to complement and supplement each other’s services and resources
for the welfare of the target beneficiaries and partner communities.
III. POLICY
Rizwoods Maritime Education Community Extension Services Office serves as the central
base for extension and outreach programs’ implementation. Hence, all activities to be conducted
in the community (outreach and extension) are being coordinated in the office. Implementation of
programs and projects are based on the needs assessments gathered by its specific implementers
or a felt need that seeks solutions and actions. In addition, the office shall support all community
engagements and participation of the students, faculty, and non- teaching personnel, offices, and
or departments and the administration. It also opens its door to agencies who wish to collaborate
with the institution with terms of partnership so long that the school can provide for society’s
sake. The Community Extension Services office shall function and operate under the direct
supervision of the Office of the General Manager and the Office of the Finance and shall work in
collaboration with the Research Office and all the different departments. Further, each department
must coordinate all its community endeavors to the Community Extension Services office for
information and proper guidance and must observe its protocol.
The extension is a public service work by an academic unit, faculty, staff, and students,
individually or as a group. This function of an institution is a contribution to achieving excellence
in social, and public service, especially the under-served sectors. The extension generates,
validates, and applies knowledge that can enrich instruction and research. Therefore, to come up
with a good program plan and become effective in the implementation and be guided in the
operation of the extension program, standards must be significantly observed where extensionists
must tail.

COMMUNITY EXTENTION PROGRAM
1. Social Services
A program for personal and structural change through the collaborative and participative efforts of
both the school and larger community, thus bringing about better quality of life for the poor people
of Basak San Nicolas Cebu City.
Program components:
A. Scholarships - It provides free secondary education of families in the adopted barangays

of Cabreros, Basak San Nicolas as well as the neighboring depressed barangays, thus
preparing them to become responsible Christian and valuable members of society.
B. Health and Nutrition - It is concerned with the promotion of health as means to better
quality of life.
C. Relief and Welfare - It aims to provide depressed barangays in Cabreros , Basak San
Nicolas, Cebu City through Relief assistance to victims of natural and man-made
calamities like fire, flash floods and destruction brought about by storm.
2. Education and Value Formation
A. Value Formation Project - it aims towards the development of the wholistic individual
with a clear direction and purpose and mission in life through experiential activities that
will prepare him to face the challenges of the present situation with the right values that
will contribute to the progress of society.
3. Community Building
A program that focuses on the upliftment of people's living condition so that they become Christ-
centered/productive individual and active partners in transforming society.
A. Area Based Catechism - aims in strengthening the formation process of organizing
Basic Christian Communities enabling community of disciples to effectively promote
spiritual and social consciousness.
B. Literary-Numeracy - Focuses on the introductory phase of learning process thereby

enhancing basic knowledge, skills and attitudes for greater degree of participation in
household and community development.
C. Livelihood Project - is an avenue for initiating alternative income, and generating

savings for household subsistence, hence a decent and dignified living condition for
families and the community as a whole.
