What is Angle?
i. Revolution
ii. Degree Measure
iii. Radian Measure
Revolution
REVOLUTION (REV) IS THE SIMPLEST,
MOST NATURAL UNIT OF MEASURE FOR
GEOMETRIC ANGLES.
OTHER NAMES FOR THIS UNIT ARE FULL CIRCLE,
TURN, FULL TURN, AND ROTATION (ROT).
A revolution is the measure of an angle formed when the initial side rotates
all the way around its vertex until it reaches its initial position. Thus, the
terminal side is in the same exact position as the initial side.
1 Revolution = 360 degrees
One Degree = 60 minutes
1 Minute = 60 second
1 rev = 360°
1° = 60’
1’ = 60’’
Example: How to change angle measure in decimals to minutes
and seconds?
i. 18.5°
i. 18.5° = 18°+0.5(60')
= 18°+30'
=18°30'
Reminder:
When an angle measure expressed as a decimal includes hours,
the hours remain the same upon conversion.
Example: How to change angle measure in decimals to minutes
and seconds?
= 21°+10.8'
=21°10'+0.8(60")
= 21°+10'+48"
Reminder:
When an angle measure expressed as a decimal includes hours,
the hours remain the same upon conversion.
One radian is the measure
RADIAN
of a central angle that
intercepts an arc s equal in
length to the radius r of the
MEASURE
circle. Since the circumference
of a circle is 2πr , one
revolution around a circle of
radius r corresponds to an
angle of 2π radians because
sr=2πrr=2π radians.

C = 2π (1 rad)
Radian Measure
C = 2π rad
2π rad = 360°
π rad = 180°
