Content standard:
The learners demonstrate an understanding on the difference of speed and velocity.
Performance standard:
The learners should be able to calculate the speed and velocity of an object.
I- OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:


A. Distinguish between speed and velocity quantities;
B. Give the importance of speed and velocity in the real world; and,
C. Calculate speed and velocity.

A. Preliminary activity
a. Prayer

(Describing Motion)

B. Motivation
The teacher will show video clips of different traffic violations. The following
questions will be then asked:

a. What will happen when you don’t follow traffic rules?


b. What do you think is the minimum speed limit in the Philippines?
c. What are the units used related to speed?
d. Are you familiar with the traffic signs below?
C. Presentation of the lesson
1. The teacher will give an overview of the topic by asking the following
questions.
a. What do you think is speed?
b. What are some examples of speed?
c. What is velocity?
d. What are some examples of velocity?

D. Lesson Proper
1. The teacher will present the concepts of the lesson.
SPEED VS VELOCITY
Formulas on how to calculate speed and velocity.

E. Activity
a. The students will be group into two.
b. They will be given 10 minutes to perform the activity and post it on the
board after.
Title of the activity: PICK AND MATCH
Instruction:
1. On your brown envelope are terminologies involved in speed and
velocity.
2. Your task is to match those terms with their corresponding
descriptions.
3. Post it on the board.

Direction: In 1 whole sheet of pad paper, answer the following problems. Each item is
equivalent to 5 points.

1. Calculate the speed of a dog running through a field if he is covering 200


meters in 50 seconds?
2. Calculate the velocity of a car that travels 556 km northeast in 3 hours?
3. A car travels a distance of 500 m in 10 secs. What is the car’s speed?
