VI. Concept notes with formative activities

Music of Southeast Asia has different ways of performing music.
Some are for entertainment but mostly are for religious purposes. They
mostly believe that their performance requires higher spirituality or
connection with spiritual beings for them to be accepted and be blessed.
Music can be considered as a performing art. Performance can also be influenced by
various factors, such as the history of music, notation and culture. Music performers try
to work out a composition by analysis, interpretation and practice in order to perform the
musical work. When music is performed, the performance includes the performer’s
interpretation, intention, performance plan and their emotions. When people perceive

performed music, they make a judgment both about the composition itself and its
performance.
