Learning Plan in Science

Grade 5
I. OBJECTIVE:
1. Describe how heat transfers from one medium to another through
Conduction.
2. Distinguish the effects of heat and electricity light and sound on people
and objects.
3. Use the conductor materials properly.

II. A. SUBJECT MATTER:

Heat transfer from One Medium to Another Through Conduction

B. Materials:
Glass Activity cards
Spoon Pictures
Hot Water Mug

C. References
Science Links 5, pp.240-243
Science For Daily Use p. 164

D. Process Skills:
Observing, Identifying, Hypothesizing, Experimenting

E. Science Concepts/ Ideas:

1.Conduction is the transfer of energy that occurs when molecules bump
into one another (heat transfer from one atom to another within the
substance).
2. Conduction is the direct flow of heat through a materials resulting from
physical contact.

F. Values:
Coordinating as a group; Working on experiment carefully and
precisely; Accepting change for better living
III. Developmental Activities
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activity
1. Prayer
Lord, thank you for your greatness. Thank you
Children, let us stand up and feel the that when I am weak, you are strong. Lord, the
presence of the Lord. Devil is scheming and I know he desires to
keep me from spending time with you. Don’t
let him win! Give me a measure of your
strength so that I might not give into
discouragement, deception and doubt! Help
me honor you in all my ways. In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

2. Greetings
Good Morning Ma’am
Good morning class!

3. Attendance
None Ma’am
Is there any absentee today?

B. Engagement
1. Review The good conductor of heat and electricity
What are the good conductors of is any kind of metals, apart from silver, and
heat and electricity?
the best is copper.
Have you experienced touching a Yes, I have experienced, hot object will
hot object ? How do you feel? have high temperature, due to which
molecules vibrate vigorously.
Where does the heat come from?
From the electricity.
Observe the pictures. Study how
does the heat transfer. Tell so
C. EXPLORATION
A, What to do
1. Divide the class into 4 groups
2. Distribute the activity worksheets.
3. Set standards to be followed while
Performing activity
4. Activity Proper
The pupils will perform the activity
(See attached activity cards)
4. Teacher’s Supervision

Activity 1-Group 1

Materials

hot water metal spoon Glass

a. Get a glass half –filled with hot

water and a metal spoon.

b. Put the spoon inside the glass of

hot water.

c. After 3 minutes hold the handle of

a spoon.
d. Observe what to do you feel and
record your observation.
e. Explain how the heat transferred to
the spoon from the water.

Activity 2 – Group 2

What heats up first?

Materials
3 spoons of similar thickness and length –
a plastic spoon ,a metal spoon and a
wooden spoon, plastic bowls, boiling water

Procedure

1. Stand the spoons in the bowl

handle up.
2. Stick a pebble to the handle of each
spoon using a dab of butter.
3. Pour hot water into the bottom of
the bowl, so the water reaches half
way up the spoons.

4. Watch thepebbles as the butter

melt
5. Record which spoons heat the
best. The first spoon to melt the
butter is the best conductor.

D. EXPLANATION

Discussion and Analysis:

a. Reporting the results of the activity

by the group
b. Discuss and analyze the result
