Veritas integrated appliances include Veritas Predictive Insights, a SaaS-based platform that uses artificial intelligence (AI), and

value solutions. These solutions help lower TCO, minimize administrative management and reduce complexity
and configuration restrictions for data center backup, recovery and cloud environments.

In addition, Veritas has been continually recognized for technology innovation for over 30 years. Our continued
legacy of success includes the adoption of many innovative and new technologies before others in the market
realize the value of these solutions. Examples include a Docker-certified client for containers to enable
rapid next-generation virtualization adoption, auto scale-up and scale-down of cloud native data protection
infrastructure to match changing demands and dynamic multi-streaming. Also, by leveraging AI/ML with SaaS-

2. BUILT-IN SECURITY AND COMPLIANCE

Veritas provides customers with peace of mind on governance and compliance issues affecting their data
centers. NetBackup Appliances include organic built-in layers of security. The operating system is hardened
based on STIG (Security Technical Information Guide) compliant rules established by the U.S. Defense
Information Systems Agency. NetBackup Appliances also include IDS and IPS security software that adds
additional layers of security and protects against nefarious exploits. Integration with Oracle Wallet in the latest
release greatly reduces security risks by enabling customers to manage credentials centrally. Veritas solutions
also provide enhanced GDPR compliance capabilities, covering more articles than Rubrik solutions and offering
extensive content classification for robust governance. Rubrik lacks feature-rich content classification with built-
in classification policies. And Rubrik does not support Oracle wallet integration.

3. ALL-INCLUSIVE SOLUTION

NetBackup Appliances are self-contained and therefore the cost is all-inclusive. On the other hand, Rubrik may
require third-party applications. Rubrik Bare Metal Recovery support resources are limited to Windows. Bare
Metal Recovery for Linux from Rubrik, depends on third-party open source tools. In comparison, NetBackup
natively supports multiple operating systems, including Windows, Linux and HP-UX. NetBackup natively supports
more hypervisors, databases and applications than Rubrik, so a customer that chooses Rubrik will often require
another solution to cover availability and protection needs. As an example, NetBackup provides an extensive
list of features all under a simple licensing model. Granular recovery for Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint is
also included in NetBackup. Rubrik uses a third-party tool, Kroll Ontrack, to achieve similar granular recovery
functionality for Exchange and SharePoint and requires multiple UIs to accomplish the same result. Rubrik
depends on QStar for tape support, which needs an additional Windows server for deployment. For Linux Bare
metal recovery, Rubrik depends on an open source tool named ReaR. This approach increases management
complexity as it adds another software solution to manage, increasing overall TCO.

4. PROVEN PERFORMANCE AT SCALE

NetBackup has proven performance when it comes to protecting very complex and large enterprise
environments. Beginning with NetBackup 8.2, it is possible to schedule not thousands, but millions of jobs in a
single day in one NetBackup environment. With IT environments having 40,000-50,000 VMs, this can become
a real-world scenario sooner than anticipated. NetBackup helps enable scalable availability and protection of
large enterprises. NetBackup supports NDMP based backups for storage arrays to take advantage of native
technology for high performance. Rubrik does not document any support for NDMP based backups.

5. EFFICIENT DEDUPLICATION

NetBackup has a proven and published 50:1 deduplication ratio efficiency from small business to larger
enterprise environments. Rubrik does not publish deduplication efficiency numbers. Rubrik does not support
source side deduplication, thereby adding overall TCO impact to a solution due to higher network bandwidth
needs. With NetBackup, deduplication to on-premise, to cloud or both, is fully transparent. With NetBackup
Accelerator, full backups are a thing of the past. Intelligent deduplication processes data at the source or
destination using intelligent, fixed or variable-length algorithms, optimizing deduplication ratios and performance
impacts. NetBackup features including Accelerator, client-side deduplication and integrated MSDP provide
optimal operational efficiency.
6. GLOBALIZATION IN MIND

Compliant Global strategies are becoming the standard in successful small to large international enterprise
companies. NetBackup offers major non-English OS support, including Chinese, English, Japanese, French and
more, covering your needs all around the globe. Rubrik is limited to English-language support for Windows OS,
minimizing global expansion of your data center options.

7. DISASTER RECOVERY – A BASIC NEED, NOT ADD-ON

NetBackup not only integrates with Veritas Resiliency Platform, making disaster recovery (DR) simple and quick,
but also has single license to cover backup & recovery, DR Orchestration and Continuous Data protection to
tackle Ransomware attacks. NetBackup 8.3 offers resiliency and orchestration, enabling availability of business
services that require various service-level objectives. In case of entire data center loss or Rubrik cluster loss,
customers are required to run manual steps, which increases business services RTO. Veritas Resiliency Platform
offers the concept of business services and supports multi-VM group dependencies, making disaster recovery of
your complex, multi-tier environments possible and reliable. Resiliency Platform also supports multiple replication
methods based on Backups, VMware-certified data mover and native array-based replication to choose from,
as per the needs of SLA. This also helps you to increase ROI from your existing investments. Rubrik, in spite
of having certified VAIO based replication support, is still dependent on snapshot or backup replication thus
limiting ROI and aggressive SLA coverage. Rubrik does not offer any multi-VM group dependency out-of-the-box,
limiting their DR recovery option to support complex multi-tier environments. Rubrik requires multiple add-ons for
enabling DR use cases.

8. LONG-TERM GAIN

NetBackup appliances have noticeably lower operational costs as low as 40%, when considered over a 3 to
5-year period, in terms of power, cooling, floorspace and network requirements for certain configurations.
All Veritas appliances are energy star certified. NetBackup does not need any cloud infrastructure merely for
tiering data to cloud and retiring it post retention period. There’s no need for consolidation of backed up data to
cloud either. This significantly helps you reduce your cloud spend for backup and lets you invest that budget into
business enhancing applications and needs. NetBackup charges you only once for the data you are protecting
at Edge which is also being protected at Data Centers. With NetBackup 8.3, you can dynamically provision
additional backup infrastructure for sudden increase in cloud native workload which is charged at granularity of
hours, further optimizing your cloud spend.

9. PREPARED FOR FUTURE WORKLOAD AND CLOUD SUPPORT

NetBackup offers a large palate of supported storage array snapshot solutions, including HP 3PAR, HDS and
EMC Unity. In version 8.3, NetBackup also added support for Nutanix Files. Rubrik solutions lack the ability to
support some of such arrays. Containers are the next level of virtualization. NetBackup is the industry’s first
Docker-certified solution for containers, preparing customers for the evolving future of modern application
development. With customers moving towards DEVOPS model, having support for containers is vital. NetBackup
8.3 supports AWS and Azure clouds for VM and application protection along with Google cloud VMs using
NetBackup CloudPoint feature. Rubrik resources only support AWS and Azure VMs. Beginning with NetBackup
version 8.2, you have had capability to protect virtualized environments that include VMware/Hyper-V, Red
Hat Virtualization and OpenStack. Test/Dev can be costly due to increasing virtualization costs. Open-sourced
OpenStack environments let you use zero-cost options to lower virtualization costs. Rubrik does not have any
out-of-the-box support for RedHat virtualization and OpenStack, thus limiting your ability to lower virtualization
costs. Veritas supports Office 365 with SharePoint and OneDrive as well as teams and groups. Veritas also
added support for Dynamics 365. Rubrik Polaris support is limited to Office 365 mailboxes. Even though Rubrik
claims Polaris to be a SaaS offering, Office 365 support needs Azure infrastructure from your cloud account.
Unlike Veritas, Rubrik lacks support for Salesforce and GSuite, creating challenges for SaaS workload protection.

1. Veritas NetBackup appliances offer built-in OS STIG, embedded Symantec Data Center Security and AES-256 bit encryption to prevent ransomware attacks
on bakups.
2. Veritas NetBackup base license now includes VRP, which covers DR and CDP both. Rubrik has separate add-ons for DR and CDP functionality.
3. Veritas NetBackup license is based on FETB, and hence software license is charged only once for edge data, even if backup is available locally at edge as well as
at data center. Rubrik license is based on capacity, and hence is charged twice, since capacity needs to exist at edge locally as well as at data center.
4. NetBackup integrates with Veritas Resiliency Platform and offers dependencies among multiple resiliency groups and not just virtual machines. Rubrik requires
multiple manual steps in case of data center loss.
