(Mar. 2019 – June. 2019)

Fakulti Kejuruteraan Mekanikal
Universiti Teknologi MARA No.UiTM: Group: rk

Instruction:

1. Answer all questions

2. Solution shall include all free-body diagrams, calculations, plots, assumptions and justification, as deemed
necessary. Marks will be given or deducted accordingly.

Question 1

(a) Briefly discuss, with the aid of diagrams, the commonly used coordinate systems in dynamic analysis
and their applications.

[CO1,PO1,C2,5 marks]

(b) The car A in the Figure Q1 below has a forward speed of 18 km/h. It is decelerating at 3 m/s 2. At the
same instant the Ferris wheel rotates at a constant rate of 3 revolutions per minute. Determine the
velocity and acceleration of the car A relative to observer B, who rides in a chair on the Ferris wheel
and plot both vectors.

Question 2

(a) Briefly discuss, with the aids of diagrams, the equation of motion in kinetic analysis of a particle.

[CO1,PO1,C2,5 marks]

(b) The 25 kg block A and 50 kg block B as shown in Figure Q2 are originally at rest, when a constant
force of 500 N is applied to block B. Neglecting the friction and the mass of the pulleys, and assuming
kinetic friction coefficient between block B and the horizontal surface is μk = 0.1, determine:

i. Accelerations of block A and block B.

ii. Tension in the cables.
