ACTIVITY 1

APO ON THE WALL

The message I got from this poem is it talks about the narration of
a child’s point of view about his rigorous Father and the hanging
photo around the wall called “Apo”. The poem tells the reality of life
during the reigning of Marcos alongside with the Martial Law. It is a
reflection of the scenario of what and how the Filipinos
experienced the tragic and traumatic event throughout the
dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines.
I can say that the persona, is afraid of the authorities based on the
poem that is why I feel sorry for the son because he represents the
people who had undergone Martial Law and feels like their
freedom is cut, and that they live in fear because they feel like they
are always being watched.
Apo on the wall brought me back to my senses, illuminating
the entire behind-the-scenes image of the truly dark chapter in
Philippine history. In general, I liked this poem because its
composition has an impact on our time and the years to come.
It affects my appreciation because, Apo on the wall gave me an
impression of the reality about martial law. This poem served as a
living testimony for those Filipinos who come across this period.
This also connotes the feeling of the Filipinos who were afraid over
the power and authority of Marcos dictatorship but now we are free
to do whatever we want.
ACTIVITY #2

I can see that the relationship between the father and the

persona is not that great at all. Having a work room in the house
indicates that the father is paying attention to his work and not
enough to his son. The father telling him that the room is no
place for a boy reveals the set of values that he wants to impose
on his son as a man, violence (firearms) and discipline (severity).
He integrates him with his son because the purpose of placing a
photo of Apo in the room is because he appreciates his strict rules
very much.

A quick search will point out that apo talks about the past

Philippine president Marcos because, at first I have a question in
my mind and that is “what is this” because I really cant understand
what is the poem all about. The poem tells the reality of life during
the reigning of Marcos alongside with the Martial Law. I said this
because when he enters his father's room, he can see
Apo's eyes and feel him comparing him to "terrible Jesus."

I agree with the poem because Marcos should be an example

to the soldiers, he must terrorized his fellow soldiers. Then, the
soldiers must follow his goal for the peacefulness of his country.
But, his goal went overboard otherwise they become nightmare of
many pilipinos , he was blinded by his power. If I'm going to write a
poem about this, I would write both of his contributions in the
Philippines as well as his acquisitive act which causes him to
abuse his power that pushes the boundaries between his fellow
countrymen.
WEEK 3

SINIGANG

Sinigang is a Filipino soup or stew characterized by its

sour and savoury taste. It is most often associated
with tamarind, although it can use other sour fruits and
leaves as the souring agent. It is one of the most popular
dishes in Filipino cuisine. Sinigang is most often associated
with tamarind in modern times, but it originally referred to
any meat or seafood cooked in a sour and acidic broth,
similar to but differentiated from paksiw (which
uses vinegar).
The importance of sinigang in our family is the benefits of
it. It is our comfort food, as it keeps one warm on cold rainy
days, it is an effective remedy for sore throat and whet
our/my apetite because this is my favorite dish.
