COURSE SYLLABUS
Course Description
The course will cover Philippine insurance law, focusing on the concept, functions and characteristics
of insurance contracts; what may be insured; insurable interest; devices for ascertaining risk of loss
(concealment and representation; warranties; exceptions); premium; the concepts of loss, notice and
proof of loss; double insurance; reinsurance; classes of insurance; the business of insurance and
regulation of the insurance industry. Philippine insurance law is rich in jurisprudence, and discussions
will be focused on the Supreme Court decisions and the precedents they set.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to know and understand the principles
of insurance law and their application to different factual situations.
