EVERYTHING IS YOUR FAULT

Most people make the mistake of reacting based on their emotions.

Emotions blind us from the truth and…
Makes us react irrationally.
That’s me when I
was in kindergarten
Teacher
So the next day…
Teacher
So the day after that…
Teacher
What my teacher could have said is…
“Doesn’t seem finish yet, what do you think you need to do next.”
“Maybe we should get some help, how about we ask someone
who has done this before.”
“What can I do better as a teacher to help him?”
Too many people jump at the chance to tell you that you’re wrong.
Because if they blame you, they feel better about themselves.
So instead, here’s a new mindset to explore…
Everything is your fault.
Learn to take full responsibility for everything and break the habit
of blaming others and making excuses.
Because when everything is your fault, everything is also in your control.
SEEKING TRUTH
Most people enter conflicts with the mindset of fighting to be right.
Usually, their goal isn’t to get to the truth.
It’s to walk out of the conversation feeling like they’ve won.
When I was working in sales at a startup…
Sales Development Rep: Get
Account Executive: Talk to potential meetings with potential customers
customers and close deals for Account Executives

Me Tom
Okay cool let’s do this! Can you give me I got a meeting for you with a
more information about the company? cable company.

Me Tom
I don’t really have much, just go
uhhh…. okay
in and do your thing!

Me Tom
So I go to my desk and prepare a presentation for this cable company.
THE MEETING GOES HORRIBLY

Me Tom
Manager: You also messed up
that other call the other week.

F#@#&*FJDEU*
… $&FHFN$$ID
FN%*$(@)

Me Tom
“There’s a lot of things we both could have done to make the call better. I’m
not saying it’s anyone’s fault, but it’s important to recognize what actually
happened and what we can do to make the situation better for next time.”

Me Tom
Borrowing a lesson from Stoicism…
In communications, it’s critical to seek truth.
See things as they are rather than what you perceive them to be.
And to understand a situation, you must learn to listen.
Because the most persuasive people are not the ones who are the smoothest
talkers or have the loudest voices.
The most persuasive are the best listeners and
have the highest level of empathy.
