I was placed at Olalekan Yusuf (SAN) & co situate at no. 89 Allen Avenue, Ikeja Lagos. It is
a core litigation firm; its major practice areas include conveyancing, secured credit
Transactions, property law, commercial matters, company law, intellectual property, oil and
gas, information and communication law amongst others. It has branches in Abuja and an
office in Essex, United Kingdom. It is a sole proprietorship owned and managed by the
principal, a Senior advocate of Nigeria and Notary public. The principal has eight lawyers in
his employment including a youth corper. The office has other support staffs which include
the office secretary, receptionist, an office assistant, a cleaner and driver.
The Law office is quite spacious and conducive for the practice of law. It is well equipped
and furnished with state of the art facilities. It has a waiting room and a well-furnished
reception; Clients and visitors are made to wait at the waiting room until their appointment is
confirmed at which point they are welcomed at the reception.
The office space is compartmentalised into several cubicles which serve as the personal
working space of each of the legal practitioners. Some compartments are large enough to take
about three lawyers. The principal has a separate office space to himself. There is a restroom,
one for females and another for males. It has a kitchenette equipped with a microwave, a
mini-refrigerator and cupboards for storage of utensils. The Law office is temperately air-
conditioned and has a water dispenser at the reception.
The law office has a well-equipped and furnished library for legal research. It contains
textbooks, updated law reports, law report indexes, journals, and biographies etc. The
materials are well arranged in several sections for ease of access. The library has a standby
photocopying machine, a scanner and a Dell computer. Furthermore, the law office has a
medium-sized conference room for meetings and conferences. One of the compartments
contains shelves where the case files are neatly arranged and classified. Their filling system is
structured according to the respective courts and jurisdiction. For the purpose of online
research, internet facility is made available to the lawyers to enable them catch up with the
current legal trend. The office has close circuit television system installed and its cameras
positioned at vantage positions for security reasons.
Whilst the principal makes the most vital decisions, the day to day management of the firm is
the responsibility of the Head of chambers who ensures proper administration of things. He
oversees the work of the other lawyers in the chamber. Each lawyer is assigned matter(s) per
week to which they report back to the Head of chambers. The learned silk handles some
matters of interest personally with other junior lawyers doing the bulk of the research work.
In conclusion, Olalekan Yusuf SAN & co is at the cutting edge of the legal profession in
Nigeria and my placement was most beneficial.
