Physical Education and Health
1. Define physical health.
Physical health is important for a person’s overall well-being. When one is physically healthy, he/she can perform physical activities effectively and efficiently. To be physically fit, regular exercise and proper training are important for one to develop healthy muscles, bones and joints. Maintaining one’s physical health is a huge part of achieving a better overall fitness and to maintain positive energy throughout the day.
2. Outcomes of physical health.
Having good physical health leads to overall strength and wellness. It strengthens the muscles, bones and joints so that the body can function well and have good support for daily activities. Maintaining good physical health reduces risks of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, improves digestion and strengthens the immune system. Also, some studies show that one’s level of physical health has a huge impact on mental health as well. Therefore, strengthening one’s body and mind are essential for achieving a healthy well-being.
3. Health-related physical fitness.
Health-related physical fitness includes exercises and activities that one can do to improve one’s physical health and fitness. These include the following categories: Body Composition – it is a special term used in physical fitness that measures the combination of all the tissues that make up the body such as bones, muscle, organs and body fat Cardiovascular Endurance – it is the ability of the heart, lungs and blood vessels to work efficiently and deliver oxygen to the different parts of the body Flexibility – it is the ability of the body to do a wide range of motion by fully using the joints Muscular Endurance – it is the ability of the muscles to endure long periods of work without tiring easily Muscular Strength – it is the ability of the muscles to exert a huge amount of force to overcome the most resistance in a single effort 4. Skill-related physical fitness and health. Skill-related physical fitness and health refers to one’s abilities in areas which are likely to improve performance in sports or certain work related activities. The six areas of skill-related physical fitness are the following: Agility – it is the ability of the body to quickly change direction while in motion Balance – it is the ability to maintain a position of the body while moving or staying still Coordination – it is using the senses and muscles together to produce an appropriate movement in response to the action or input received Power – it refers to the amount of strength a person is able to use during a movement, together with the speed of the motion Speed – it refers to how fast a person can move Reaction Time – it refers to the amount of time it takes for a person to respond to a stimulus These areas of fitness may have no direct effect on a person's health, but they tend to increase athletic aptitude, which may in turn enhance health.
5. Enumerate the seven dimensions of well-being in physical fitness.
The following are the seven dimensions of well-being in physical fitness. Physical Wellness – it involves implementing regular physical activity and having proper rest Emotional Wellness – to have awareness of our own emotions and our outlook on other people and circumstances in life Spiritual Wellness – to obtain mental clarity, spirituality, peace of mind, calmness and renewed physical energy Intellectual Wellness – it involves a commitment to lifelong learning and expanding our knowledge by trying to learn something new everyday Environmental Wellness – to be one with nature and have restorative feelings with the environment to reflect on our thoughts and feelings Occupational Wellness – it involves the suitability of our workplace to our field of interest, and the fulfilment we gain from our professions Social Wellness – to have more meaningful social interactions, build a healthy connection with peers, and to maintain a positive circle of improvement and success for our loved ones
