This supplement provides information concerning additional 2015
packages for the VOLVO operators manual.
Please keep this addendum in the vehicle at all times.
Note: Illustrations in this manual are used for reference only and may
differ slightly from the actual vehicle. However, key components
addressed in this document are represented as accurately as possible.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and
VOLVO Trucks Inc. should be informed immediately if you believe

Additional 2015 Features

XE Additional Features
Note: Additional Customer-requested XE package options are available. Contact your
VOLVO Truck dealer for more information about standard and optional features.
The XE Evolution package offers several additional features. The additional features
include:
• Road Speed Limit (RSL) Based Gear Locking
• Adaptive Gearing
Road Speed Limit (RSL) Based Gear Locking

Note: This feature is pre-programmed by a certified VOLVO technician only. No
manual adjustment or programming is available.
The Road Speed Limit (RSL) Based Gear Locking is a feature of the I-Shift
transmission XE package. If the Road Speed Limit is less than the threshold, the
transmission is locked out of 12th gear. This feature stops the I-Shift from ‘gear
hunting’ by not permitting the transmission to shift into a gear that cannot be
maintained.
Note: For tires with a 512 rpm rating and 2.64 rear axle ratio, the speed threshold
is approximately 100 Km/h (62 mph).
Adaptive Gearing
Note: This package is pre-programmed by a certified VOLVO technician only. No
Adaptive Gearing is a higher performance version of the basic XE package and is
recommended for bulk hull applications only. Adaptive Gearing locks out the top gear
when the vehicle is above a certain weight threshold, providing better performance
when heavily loaded. Because the engine revolutions per minute (rpms) are higher
when running heavy, combining this feature with the Scalable RSL is recommended.
Note: Vehicle weight is determined by the air suspension pressure measured on the
forward front axle.
2 Information
I-Shift Additional Features

Note: The I-Shift transmission is available with optional features. Customer-requested
options are available. Contact your VOLVO Truck dealer for more information about
standard and optional features.
The 2015 I-shift transmission features offer additional options when compared to the
standard I-Shift packages. The additional features include:
• Extended Eco-Roll
• Torque Limiting for the Comfort Shift Package
Extended Eco-Roll
Extended Eco-Roll is a fuel saving feature that keeps the vehicle in Eco-Roll, below
the cruise control set speed. When the vehicle has the cruise control and Eco-Roll
activated the I-Shift transmission stays in neutral until decelerated to the cruise control
set speed minus the extended Eco-Roll delta. Once the vehicle reaches the cruise
control set speed fueling restarts.
Torque Limiting for the Comfort Shift Package

This feature works in conjunction with the Comfort Shift package. For the first five
gears, the vehicle torque is limited to 1627 Nm (1200 ft-lb). Having the vehicle torque
set to this range lessens tire wear and ensures a smoother ride while the vehicle
travels in lower gears.

Engine Additional Features

Note: The VOLVO engine is available with optional features. Customer-requested
options are available. Contact your VOLVO Truck dealer for more information about
standard and optional features.
The additional engine features include:
• Scalable Road Speed Limit (RSL)
• Top ‘X’ Feature
Scalable Road Speed Limit (RSL)

The Scalable Road Speed Limit (RSL) feature allows the road speed limit setting to be
based on vehicle weight. This setting is beneficial if the vehicle’s weight fluctuates
drastically during operation hours. An example is setting the road speed limit to 104
Km/h (65 mph) when the vehicle is unloaded or carrying a light load. The vehicle
could also be set for 100 Km/h (62 mph) when carrying a heavy load. This feature
operates in conjunction with the other XE package feature, Adaptive Gearing. For
more information on Adaptive Gearing refer to “Adaptive Gearing”, page 1 .
Top ‘X’ Feature

This feature controls the amount of torque available when the vehicle is in the top
gears. In order to provide better fuel economy, high end torque is only available in
driving situations requiring additional torque. An example would be if the vehicle is
climbing a steep hill and is already driving in a top gear. For normal driving the high
end torques are not available with the Top ‘X’ feature.
