2 Step 2: Evaluate your hardware and system configuration

You can use WebSphere Process Server in many different configurations. See "Planning for WebSphere Process Server" in
the information center. Review the WebSphere Process Server product license to ensure that you have a sufficient number
of authorizations to support your topology and that you understand the usage restrictions for all software components
included with the product.

3 Step 3: Install the product
These instructions briefly tell you how to install your product with a stand-alone server development profile using the
Apache Derby Embedded database. For detailed installation instructions, see "Installing WebSphere Process Server" in the
information center.
A. Start the launchpad file from where you extracted the electronic image. From the launchpad, click New Installation.
B. On the launchpad, click Install WebSphere Application Server to silently install and import WebSphere Application
Server Network Deployment.
C. On the launchpad, click Install WebSphere Process Server. On the IBM Installation Manager, follow the instructions to
install the product. Make sure to select the following feature to install: Stand-alone development WebSphere Process
Server profile.
4 Step 4: Next Steps: Create your production deployment environment

Use the documentation in the information center to plan, install, and configure a deployment environment suitable for
your needs. The diagram in this section describes one possible system topology and configuration. This example shows a
multiple-host deployment environment in which a management server (known as the deployment manager ) is on one host
(B), and each of the other hosts (C) have a managed node where application servers (shown as cluster members) are
defined. Data exchange occurs between the database (A) and all of the hosts.

After installing the required software on each host, use the Profile Management Tool to create the deployment manager
profile and a custom profile for each managed node. (See "Configuring profiles" in the information center.) Then use the
Deployment Environment wizard in the administrative console to create the deployment environment using one of the
suggested common patterns or your own custom configuration. (See "Creating deployment environments" in the
information center.) See the information center for detailed steps.
