Q1.
For a West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, the API is 36.3o. The following data was
obtained from a TBP test.
Vol% 5 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 85
T (oF) 62 144 255 344 437 531 623 717 819 897
b) Complete the Table for the following fractions (cuts) with their boiling range as
given.
IBP-200, 200-300, 300-400 likewise upto 900 oF with an increment in temperature by
100 oF
The table should contain the following points;
Boiling range, Vol% cumulative, VABP, slope, correction factor, MABP, API, specific
gravity, Mol wt.
c) Plot API vs mid volume, Molecular weight vs mid volume for the above cuts.
Q2.
10,000 bbl/h of a Brent Crude (whose TBP and API vs mid-volume percent curve is pasted
below, API of the crude is 31.6o) is to be fractionated in a distillation tower into Heavy
Naphtha (HN), Kerosene, Gas oil and Long Residue. The product specifications are as
follows:
HN 400
80
Kerosene 520
40
Gas Oil 700
The TBP gap between gas oil and overflash can be assumed to be 40 oF. Overflash can be
assumed to be 2.0 vol% of feed. Steam stripping of all side streams and tower bottoms is
specified at 10 lb/bbl of net stripped liquid.
a) Determine the volumetric and mass flow rates of all product streams.
b) Estimate and plot the TBP, ASTM and atmospheric EFV curves of the kerosene
product
c) Determine the weight percent of feed that should be in the vapourized state at the
tower inlet so that the above products can be obtained.
