One of the most impressive megalithic structures was Stonehenge, built around 2800-1500 BC in England, which had a circular outer wall of large stones some weighing over 50 tons brought from Wales and stood upright. Burial mounds called tumuli or barrows were also constructed as earthen mounds used to bury ordinary people.

    a. MONOLITH – isolated single upright stone also known as “menhir”
