MAINTENANCE OF MAJOR MACHINE UNITS 5

5-2-3 Adjustment (QTU-250M/350M)

1. Reference position of turret indexing

The turret head is driven and indexed by a servomotor on the basis of an absolute positioning
system. The controller has the factory-set reference position stored in its memory to perform
absolute positioning. If the stored data should be lost due to a drop of the battery voltage or if the
controller itself has been replaced, set and store the reference position anew by the following
procedure:

(1) Press the machine menu key to call up the machine menu.
(2) Select [MAINTENANCE1] from the machine menu.
(3) For the milling specifications, select the [TURRET MILL ORT] menu item in manual
operation mode while pressing the MF1 key and MF2 key to orient the milling spindle.
(4) Select the [TURRET UNCLAMP] menu item in manual operation mode to unclamp the
turret.
Highlight the menu item.

(5) Press the [TURRET INI.SET] menu key together with the MF1 and MF2 keys to highlight
the menu item.
Pressing the manual pulse feed key can operate the turret. Unlike the regular rotation
movement, pressing the manual pulse feed key operates the turret regardless of the
selection of the axis selection switch when the [TURRET INI.SET] menu is highlighted.

(6) Mount a boring bar holder on the position of tool number 1.

Next, mount a pick tester mounting jig on the chuck. Match the pick tester with the inner
diameter of the hole of the boring bar holder, rotate the chuck and measure the movement
of the pick tester. Adjust the position such that the movement is 0.02 mm (0.0008 in) or
shorter.
