When a pianist play with closed eyes and open it only at the end of the partition, it look to me
that she or he woke up from a dream.

+sauros Pianist here. I often find myself blurring my vision while staring at my hands. I stop doing
it when playing difficult passages, easy passages I simply block out vision and fully delve into the
music. I do it unconsciously. Stopped doing it for a while because I've only been tackling
technically demanding pieces. So I have to focus on technique, the most enjoyable times for me
is when I can simply not concentrate on playing and simply enjoy the music itself while my hands
are floating above the piano. So yes, I believe you are right in saying that pianists are dreaming.

I've been playing this for years... Now, I will never be able to play it again after listening to this
interpretation. I was never close to this.
However as far as I have been able to tell, nobody on YouTube plays that version! For one thing,
the YouTube versions all seem to be longer, and have more repeats. In addition, at the end of the
Chester version the music shifts into quintuplets, and I would very much like to hear what that
sounds like when played by a serious pianist, but nobody seems to be playing the end that way.
Can someone explain what is going on? Is there a different and more popular sheet music
version that I don't have?

The words to this song were written by the Scotsh poet Robert Burns, and the melody was
written by Robert Tannahill about 1808. It is surmised that there was an even earlier version of
the melody, as folk tunes do evolve, as proven by Nyman in this beautiful version.

But wouldn't the piano be ruined playing on a spraying beach in a salty air, or are you using an el

Its funny to hear you play one of the first pieces I ever learnt so wonderfully!
Don't you think that your talent and undertanding should be used to express the meaningful
music, the pieces of art?
There are so many good composers with so little opportunity to show their work in this culture
dominated by huge Labels that try, with success, to raise sensitivity just for easy listening.
You have such a great talent for play the music of so many composers, you got already a name,
you probably don't need so badly much more money then you do normally with your concerts.
This music you played is an sequence of harmonies that anyone who knows a bit of music could
improvise, withou any insight , inspiration or urge to express anything. Its sad that so few people
have the sensitivity to notice that.

i remeber many concerts at the academy of music @ locust & broad. of course the best sound
was in the ampitheater up there with the chandaler. i studied violin with a member (3rd chair) of
the phila orchestra. in most countries of the world, all generations love classical as well as other
types of music. but what has happened in the USA in the last about 40 years is.... well remember
what life used to be like here in the 50's and 60's and into the 70's. most of my generation plan
to get out of here, period. there are many other countries in the world that are and will be
better places to live. yuja wang, nothing comparied to argerich or lisista. i was in a state of shock
when i read that the phila orch had filled for bankruptcy. oh well, welcome to 3rd world USA. if
you had heard the phila orch in the early 70's you would now consider it to be a 2nd rate
orchestra. in that time period it was the best in the world. not anymore. too many other great
orchestras around the globe at this point. so much for my history lesson. thanks for the Re:. i
love to understand and read other viewpoints. but i must say i still miss philly big time. but then
again it was not like back in the bohemian days like 60's, 70's. and the astronomical rental fees or
condo prices. my first apt in philly, right off from rittenhouse sq. w/ 15 ft ceiling, hardwood
floors, bay window, working fireplace, and i built a loft. do you know what my rent was!! $145 a
month. i could never afford to live in my old stomping ground at todays prices. hope you have
better luck
