INVOCATION
ELW 4
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of
the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.
CANTICLE OF PRAISE
Isaiah 49:1-7
Refrain:
blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9God is faithful; by him you
were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
The LORD put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise | to our God;
many shall see, and stand in awe, and put their trust | in the LORD.
4
Happy are they who trust | in the LORD!
They do not turn to enemies or to those who | follow lies. R
Great are the wonders you have done, O LORD my God! In your plans for
us, none can be com- | pared with you! Oh, that I could make them
known and tell them! But they are more than | I can count.
6
Sacrifice and offering you do | not desire;
you have opened my ears: burnt-offering and sin-offering you
have | not required. R
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our
brother Sosthenes, 2To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those who
are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, together with all those
who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their
Lord and ours: 3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ.
4I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God
that has been given you in Christ Jesus, 5for in every way you have been
enriched in him, in speech and knowledge of every kind6just as the
testimony of Christ has been strengthened among you 7so that you are not
lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus
Christ. 8He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you may be
[John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, Here is
the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!30This is he of whom
I said, After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was
before me. 31I myself did not know him; but I came baptizing with water
for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel. 32And John testified, I
saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on
him. 33I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with
water said to me, He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the
one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. 34And I myself have seen and have
testified that this is the Son of God.
35The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, 36and
as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, Look, here is the Lamb of
God! 37The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed
Jesus. 38When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, What
are you looking for? They said to him, Rabbi (which translated means
Teacher), where are you staying? 39He said to them, Come and see.
They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that
day. It was about four oclock in the afternoon. 40One of the two who heard
John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peters brother. 41He first
found his brother Simon and said to him, We have found the Messiah
(which is translated Anointed). 42He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at
him and said, You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas
(which is translated Peter).
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.
Please be seated.

DIALOGUE
PREFACE
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Holy God, Creator of all and Source of life, at the birth of time your word
brought light into the world.
In the fullness of time, you sent your Word, born of Mary, to shine in our
darkness and to make us your daughters and sons.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave
thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my
body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to
drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and
for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Remembering, therefore, his birth and life among us, his death and
resurrection, we await his coming again when all things will be restored in
him.
By your Spirit bless us and this bread and cup, that held and nourished by
you, we may live as your children, shining with the light of your Son.
Through him all glory and honor is yours, Almighty Father, with the Holy
Spirit, in your holy Church, both now and forever. Amen.
LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
All baptized people are welcome to the table to receive Christs body and
blood. If you have not been baptized, you are also welcome to the table as
Gods guest; we are honored by your presence. We recognize the Body of
Christ as the community of the baptized, so if you would like to become
part of the Body of Christ, we encourage you to seek baptism. If you cant
or dont wish to receive today, we encourage you to hold your hands over
your chest for a blessing as you come forward.

We give you thanks, O God, with our eyes we have seen your salvation. In
this bread and cup of Christ's very body and blood you give us food for our
journey. As you led the magi by a star, as you brought the holy family home
again, guide us on the way unfolding before us. Wherever we go, may our
lives proclaim good news of great joy in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Confession of Peter
Wednesday, January 18, 2017
Today the church remembers the apostle Peter's great acknowledgement of
Jesus as "the Christ, the Son of the living God." This festival serves as a
fitting beginning to the week in which we particularly pray that all
Christians might be united in faith and witness.
God Almighty send you light and truth to keep you all the days of your life.
The hand of God protect you; the holy angels accompany you; and the
blessing of almighty God, Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit, be upon and
remain with you forever.
Amen.
