Mikrotik Netinstall in Linux
Netinstall is a program to reinstall the routerOs operating system after the routerboard has
crashed. The program is made for windows but can also be used under linux.
Make a shortcut on your desktop as shown here. I immediately had an issue that we shall resolve
later, but I want to show you the problem anyway.
If you click the shortcut you get an error message, this is because you need to run te program as
a root user.
In the shortcut settings the command should be prefixed by the command "gksu". This runs a
graphical program as root.
Now Mikrotik Netinstall will start without any further problems. You will have to supply the root
password at every start of the program.
Network configuration on the pc
Connect the routerboard with a pc or laptop with a networkcable. Use ether1 on the routerboard.
Click "settings", then "network" and choose "wired connection". choose "IP4 settings".
In the adress field you need to pick an ip adress in the same ip range as what you just
configured in netbooting.
Fill in the subnet and fill in the netinstall server ip as the gateway.
Activate the checkbox "IP4 necessary for this connection". This is very important.
Click "save".
Netinstall procedure
click netbooting, check "boot server enabled". As the client IP adress you can choose
192.168.1.1.
Disconnect the power on the routerboard. Hold the resetbutton while powering up the board. The
user led will now blink. Keep holding the reset button until the led stops blinking. The routerboard
will start in a netinstall mode. After a few seconds . Click browse to locate the directory which
contains the packages.
The packages will be listed in the lower part of the application window.
Select the icon, as "rb 433AH" in this example. Click "select all" to select the packages.
Click install.
Netinstall is finished.
