FleetMaster

This manual contains information on how to install the latest FleetMaster

software on various Windows platforms and for various DataChief (K-Chief)
versions.
If you need to install or fix problems related to older versions of FleetMaster or
ShipViewer, please read CN-0538-X Technical Log Troubleshooting .doc (X
denotes the latest available revision of the document).

Computer: Processor 733 MHz. 128 MB MAM. 100MB hard disk free space.
Operating System: In order to run the FleetMaster Ship Gateway, you need a
computer with Windows NT/SP6, Windows 2000/SP3, Windows XP or Win7.
In order to install FleetMaster for DataChief version 9.0 and higher, you need
Windows 2000/SP3, XP or Win7.
InstallChecker: In order to run installChecker you need Windows 2000, XP or
Win7.

&

'

Please see the release notes (Release.PDF) installed with the product and also
stored on the release CD.

When installing FleetMaster Technical log (ShipViewer), you should have the
current project fltmimic.dll file (FleetMaster mimic file). The FleetMaster does
not depend on this file and will be fully functional without it, but project specific
mimic pictures are preferred.

ROS: Remote Operator Station (Data Chief C20 operator control station)
FPG: FleetMaster Process Gateway

There are several ways to install the FleetMaster software. Please refer to the
project specification for details on your type of installation.

The auto-run menu is automatically displayed when inserting the FleetMaster

installation CD if the auto-run feature is enabled on the computer. If auto run is
disabled, or the CD-files are on a memory stick or on a hard disk, you can
activate autoutorun.exe manually. It is located in the root folder of the CD.

Adobe Reader is required to read the installation manual from the CD. If
necessary, install this from the CD (\Utilities\Adobe) before proceeding with the
FleetMaster installation.
Components may be installed separately by going through steps 2-5 above, or
you may use the automatic setups program called InstallChecker

&

To install FleetMaster on computers running Windows 7, you need to have

administrator privileges. It may not be sufficient to be logged on as a domain
user who is also member of the administrator group. The setup may appear to
run without any problems, but you may get some error messages when the
InstallChecker program is executed.
You may get messages like Access denied from the operating system or you
may experience messages like this:

It is strongly recommended that you log on to the computer as an

administrator before trying to install FleetMaster on Windows 7.

It is also strongly recommended that you turn UAC (User Account Control)
off. Go to the Control panel. Select the System and Security category.
Then open the Change User Account Control settings dialog, select Never
notify and OK.

Remember to restart the computer after changing the UAC setting.

If you are logged on as a user without full administrator rights, you can still try
to install FleetMaster, but you need to run the setup as administrator. To do this,
proceed as described below.
If the main installation window (autotun.exe) is started automatically, you
must terminate it.
Then navigate to the root of the installation CD and find the program
called Autorun.exe. Right click the program and select Run as
administrator from the context menu and enter the administrator
username and password. After programs launched from the main
installation window will be executed as administrator and installation can
be carried out as described in this document.
For KC-500 installations, it is recommended to use the >Start Guided
installation option from the main window. See chapter 2.

This section explains how to connect to the correct networks, process- and ship's
administrative network.

The FleetMaster Gateway computer is connected to the ROS B network as a

default.
If connected to the ROS A network please observe the following:
1 All IP addresses referred to in this manual as xxx.xxx.16.xxx must be
changed to xxx.xxx.17.xxx
2 A few entries in the fleetmaster.ini file must be changed manually :

AutoInit=Yes
Command=PdsGW.exe /ipaddra 0.0.0.0 /..

must be exchanged with

AutoInit=No
Command=PdsGW.exe /ipaddra 172.17.0.xxx /..

where xxx will be the Gateway address.

+
The network adapter connected to the process network must be configured to use
ip address 172.16.0.200 with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 for connection to the Bnet.
Make sure that the gateway computer only has one address in the ROS range.
This means that only one of the addresses 172.16.0.xxx (B-net) and
172.17.0.xxx (A-net) must be defined on any of the network adaptors on the
gateway. Having addresses for both A- and B-net on the same gateway will lead
to problems with data reception.

The port forwarding application NetworkActiv needs a dedicated ip address to
read UDP in parallell with the PDS. Add the ip address 172.16.1.200 with subnet
mask 255.255.0.0 to the network adapter connected to the process network.

This chapter is relevant if you are installing a FleetMaster Client software for
DC 2000 on windows XP/SP2 or Windows 7 computers only.
DCOM setup is complicated in Windows XP SP2. DCOM (un)stability in
general is also a problem for running FleetMaster applications. This is why we
have stopped using DCOM. In stead we now install port forwarding software
from NetworkActive to supply FleetMaster clients with data from DataChief.
This works well for DC-C20, but for DC-2000 it is necessary for the clients to
request alarm summary and alarm history from DataChief. The port forwarding
software is not able to do this. This means that one of the solutions outlined
below must be used if more than one computer on the ship shall run FleetMaster
applications.
1

All computers that shall run FleetMaster applications are

connected directly to the process network and configured to
run as a FleetMaster GWs. This may not always be possible
(or practical) with respect to wiring and it is not allowed if
the computers also are connected to an administrative
network.

3 The FleetMaster computers may be connected to the process network

through a router that will isolate the process network from traffic from
the administrative network. This type of solution requires detailed
manual set-up and is not described in this manual. Please contact
Kongsberg Maritime for more details if you plan to use this solution.
If you have only one FleetMaster computer, or if all FleetMaster
computers are directly connected to the process network, the
above discussion does not apply.

Depending on the configuration of the FleetMaster installation, some additional
software installations and / or updates are required. Please install from the
chapters suiting your configuration only.

If the computer is supposed to be a gateway, the NetworkActiv port forwarding

application is required. This program opens a one way connection between the
DataChief system and the ship's administrative network. It will not compromise
the security aspect regarding access to the process network.
The gateway must also be set up to share the FleetMaster folder on the network.

If any kind of security alert is displayed during the installation process, the
NetworkActiv application must be unblokked / allowed access

after a reboot later in the installation procedure

9
/
If you plan to connect one or more FleetMaster clients to the administrative
network, they must be able to copy configuration files from the gateway. This
happens automatically every time FleetMaster is started on the client. A batch
file will try to copy data from GATEWAY\FleetMaster\Config\Database. This is
only possible if the gateway is set to share those files. Please follow the
procedure below if you plan to connect clients to the administrative network.
1. Make sure that simple file sharing in windows is turned off. You do this
by opening a windows explorer (on the gateway computer). Select
Tools/Folder Options/View (tab) Then make sure the bottom choice (Use

When the network setup is complete and all the required applications are
installed, the FleetMaster Technical Log can be installed from the main menu.

If a previous version of FleetMaster is already installed on the computer, please

follow these instructions to upgrade the software.

)<%

For versions older than 4.6.2 and all versions of FleetMaster for DC2000, the following
upgrade procedure should be followed:
1. Remove the old FleetMaster installation (from Control panel/Add Remove
Programs). Also remove the Sentinel driver if it is installed. This applies to
installations older than year 2001 only.
2. Remove the c:\FleetMaster folder entirely from the disk. If you have valuable
data in the ShipData, ShipReport or ShipTrender folders, you should make a
backup first.
3. You should also make sure the files in C:\FleetMaster\ShipViewer is backed up.
You may need to restore them after installation if the K-Chief (DataChief)
version is older than Service Pack 10.03. For newer K-Chief versions, all
ShipViewer related files are copied from ROS1 when FleetMaster is restarted.
4. Follow the instructions in this manual to prepare the computer for installation
and install the FleetMaster application software.
5. If you are installing for DataChief 2000:
There is no need for patching as mentioned in the readme file in the installation
CD root. See : Manuals/CN-0533-B User Manual Network and NT Config.pdf
if you plan to use more than one FleetMaster PC. This is quite hard to do with
Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows 7.
6. After installation it is possible (but requires some manual work) to restore your
logged data from the backup if it is available.
All files in the ShipData folder may be replaced with your backed up folder.
All sub-folders in the ShipTrender folder may be replaced with the
corresponding folders from your backup - but not the files in the ShipTrender
folder itself.
7. If your previous version is 4.5.1 or older and you have used ShipTask to save
alarm history in C:\Fleetmaster\ShipReport\Logbook.mdb, these alarms will no
longer be available from the new shortcut to Logbook.exe on you desktop. The
new Ship Report (Logbook.exe) uses a different database table layout. The alarm
database will initially be empty after patching.
However, it is possible to view the old alarm database with the old version of the
program. You must then save the backed up ShipReport folder somewhere on

the disk (e.g. in C:\FleetMaster\oldalarms). Then make a new shortcut on the

desktop to the Logbook.exe file in that folder, or just activate the old program
from a windows explorer. The old database will not be updated with new alarms
and events. These will be stored in the new database :
C:\Fleetmaster\ShipReport\Logbook.mdb.

If rel. 4.6.3 or higher is installed and the new version is 4.6.5 or higher, it will be possible
to upgrade without uninstalling the old FleetMaster first. This applies to FleetMaster for
DC-C20 only. For DC-2000 installations, the procedures in the previous chapter must be
followed.
1. As a precaution, you should always make a backup of the old installation before
an upgrade. Simply copy the entire FleetMaster folder (C:\FleetMaster) with
sub-folders to a memory stick or hard disk.
2. From the installation CD, run the FleetMaster Setup manually. See chapter 2
3. After installation all your logged data and ShipViewer (fltmimic.dll) will be

FleetMaster

This chapter applies to DataChief versions 9 only.

NB! On the installation CD for rel 4.6.1 there is a patch called Patch v10 that
does this automatically.
Different DataChief versions use different files for starting the Process Database
Server (PDS) and ShipViewer. This makes it necessary to copy different files for
different versions into the FleetMaster folder. For older versions (up to and
including version 8) this is handled automatically by the FirstTime.exe program.
DataChief (and ShipViewer) version 9.0.2 is the latest available at the time of
FleetMaster 4.6.0 release. There are a few issues that must be observed when
installing version 9.
Version 9.0.0
When you select version 9 in FirsTime.exe, PDS and ShipViewer files for
DataChief version 9.0.0 will be installed. If you are running this DataChief
version, no further modifications need to be carried out.
Version 9.0.1 and up..
For DataChief versions 9.0.1 and up, some files must be replaced after
installation of FleetMaster. The patch named PatchV10 does this automatically.
If the patch is not available files must be copied manually as described below,
preferably before starting up FleetMaster for the first time. Both
ProcessGateway files and ShipViewer files must be copied. The
ProcessGateway may be copied from ROS1. One must then search
c:\ros\basic\bin and c:\ros\basic\sys for the necessary files.
NB! The description below is a manual procedure corresponding to the Patch
v10. It is not necessary to do this if you run the patch or if you have
FleetMaster release 4.6.2 or higher.
Copy ProcessGateway files:

1. Locate the DCC20\ProcessGateway folder on the installation CD.

2. Find the subfolder for the actual version you are running (here v9.0.2)

CN-0524 / G 08.09.2010

30

Kongsberg Maritime

FleetMaster

3. Copy all files from this folder (DCconfig.exe, PdsConfig.exe, DZF.dll

and OD.dll ) into
c:\FleetMaster\ProcessGateway, overwriting all existing files.
4. Copy the same files into the actual version folder under
ProcessGateway, here c:\FleetMaster\ProcessGateway\V9,
overwriting all existing files.
If item 4 above is ignored, the version specific files will be over-written by the
one from the .\V9 folder if FirstTime.exe is run again.
Copy ShipViewer files:

5. Make sure you have a copy of the fltmimics.dll file in case you delete
the original by accident.
6. Delete all files from c:\FleetMaster\ShipViewer (except for
fltmimic.dll if it exists)
7. Locate the DCC20\ShipViewer folder on the installation CD.
8. Find the subfolder for the actual version you are running (here v9.0.2)
9. Copy all files (except mimics.dll) from this folder (Viewer.exe,
sfl201as.dll, og901as.dll) into c:\FleetMaster\ShipViewer.
10. Copy the same files into the actual version folder under ShipViewer,
here c:\FleetMaster\ShipViewer\V9, overwriting all existing files.
If item 4 above is ignored, the version specific files will be over-written by the
one from the .\V9 folder if FirstTime.exe is run again.

+-

For KC-500 / 10.03 and up, all Ship Viewer related files shall be located in the
\\ROS1\ShipViewer folder and will be copied automatically to the FleetMaster computer
when restarting. For older versions of K-Chief /DataChief, obtaining the correct
Viewer.exe version and files it depends on is a manual task. Please see the next
paragraphs for more details.

DataChief you have. It is important that this action is carried out before running the
application for the first time.
0)%
+For older DataChief versions new mimic pictures (fltmimic.dll) that shall replace
previous ones must be copied to two different folders on the FleetMaster computer.
1. c:\FleetMaster\ShipViewer
2. The current DataChief /ShipViewer folder, e.g:
c:\FleetMaster\ShipViewer\V9
If item 2 above is ignored, the new fltmimic.dll will be over-written by the one from the
.\V9 folder if FirstTime.exe is run again.

To complete the FleetMaster setup, the computer should be restarted.

The computer should be restarted for the applications to run properly and to have a visual
confirmation that everything is according to the project specifications.
Make sure that files are copied from ROS1 as intended both when rebooting the computer
and when restarting FleetMaster without rebooting. This can be checked by deleting all
files in the C:\FleetMaster\Config\Database folder and perform the reboot/ restart.

For releases prior to 4.6.3; when FleetMaster is started for the first time, the
FirstTime screen will open. It will appear this time only for an initial
configuration. This dialog will differ from release to release. The example below
is for release 4.6.2. The program may be activated again from the Start
Menu/FleetMaster/Start.
On newer versions of FleetMaster the process described below is handled by the
InstallChecker application.

Select Gateway, Client or Viewer only.

25 If a Viewer-only is connected to the process network, check the checkbox for
the connection to the C20. If a Viewer-only is connected to the ship's
administrative network, do not check for the connection to the C20. This
option will configure the location of the database to be copied.
26 If a Viewer-only is connected to the ship's administrative network enter the
name of the Gateway computer. The FleetMaster Gateway name is
GATEWAY as a default.
27 Check the correct DataChief version.

28 Select what applications (FPG, Trlog, ShipTask) you want to start

automatically when FleetMaster is started.
29 Select whether or not the Remote Recorder and RunAndDelete is to be started
automatically. These are application needed for sending information to and
receive commands files from land office.
30 The Synchronize time with DC-C20 is enabled as default.
Click OK to confirm. If you have installed FleetMaster for DC-C20, the
password dialog appears. You must enter user name and password for the
computer where the DataChief database files are to be fetched. The dialog
box is different if you are connected to the process network or not.
If you are connecting to the process network it looks like this:

Here you must fill in all fields. Normally the default values are the correct
ones. Only username and password must be filled in.
On the administrative network, it looks like this:

+ /

NB ! This chapter is relevant for releases up to and including 4.6.1 On later

releases, the database is copied automatically when FleetMaster is restarted.
The GATEWAY FleetMaster needs the database from the ROS to function
properly. The Client FleetMaster needs the database from the gateway. If the
database update does not succeed due to problems with connection to ROS or
GATEWAY, an error message will be displayed and the start-up will terminate.
This requires manual interaction and needs to be carried out before restarting the
FleetMaster applications.
1

To open the ROS1 file system, type \\ROS1 in the start->run menu. If the
file system does not support name resolution, the IP address has to be
typed instead of the computer name. In this case that would be
\\172.16.0.101 (B net).

The database is located in C:\Ros\Config\Database on the ROS computer.

Copy all files inside the database folder and paste into the
C:\FleetMaster\Config\database folder on the FleetMaster computer.

The database copy operation is complete and FleetMaster should be

restarted.
The procedure for copying manually to a client is similar to the description
above, but you must use other computer names/addresses of course.

&

"

Please note that the original batch files that copies the database
(GW_CopyDB.bat and Client_CopyDB.bat) are designed for use with Windows
2000/XP. They must be modified or replaced to work with Windows NT.
A set of batch files for NT is located on the installation CD, in the Win_NT
folder. Please copy the two batch files manually to the c:\FleetMaster\Tools
folder after installation of FleetMaster.

Each time FleetMaster is restarted, a start-up log is generated. Rel 4.6.3/4.6.4

make the file C:\FleetMaster\startup.log. Later releases make the file
C:\FleetMaster\ConfigReport.txt.
After installation and restart, it is important to inspect this file for any error
messages. In particular, the
!" " "
#
- section
must be inspected to verify that files are copied correctly.
This will verify that:
the network is set up correctly
user name and password for logging on to the remote computer (ROS1 or
GATEWAY) has been correctly entered
file sharing is set up correctly on the remote computer

The section should look approximately like this:

Errors in the log or other problems?

If you are experiencing problems of any kind with the FleetMaster
Applications or ShipViewer, please go through the steps listed below to
generate files with some useful troubleshooting information.
1

Run the InstallChecker again and pay attention to all test results in all
steps of the program. Correct make the necessary corrections and
repeat the tests until all are succefull.
NB! In the last step, remember to click the Save button before
terminating the program.

For releases before 4.6.5, a file version.log must be generated

manually. That can be done form the Windows Start menu - (All)
Programs/ FleetMaster/Tools/FileVersions. Start the program from the
menu and click the Save button before closing the dialog.

Restart FleetMaster. This will update the information in

Fleetmaster.ini. Inspect the startup.log for errors as described above.

Now the following files have been updated in the C:\FleetMaster folder:
InstallReport.txt
Startup.log
Fileversion.log
FleetMaster.ini
ConfigReport.txt (4.6.5 and up)
If you need assistance analysing these files, they can be sent to KM
Customer support for investigation. ConfigReport.txt contains Startup.log,
InstallReport.txt, Fileversion.log and more. So if ConfigReport.txt exist, this
is the only file that you need to send (4.6.5 and up). For older versions, the 3
other files are needed.
