Students could brainstorm a list of as many franchise operations that they can. This list could then
be split according to the following categories
- Does it provide goods and/or services?
- Is the franchise mobile?
Following this, students could try to determine why these businesses seem to be suited to the franchise
business model.
Using local or metropolitan newspapers, students could research the number and types of
franchises that are for sale.
- From this, students could devise a list of 5 appropriate Key Performance indicators that could
be used to assess the success of these franchise ventures.
- Students could also discuss which of the franchises available seem most likely to succeed and
which seem a bit doubtful. They would need to justify their answers.

well?

Look up the ACCC website (www.accc.gov.au) and try to find the area that relates to the
regulation of franchises.
Look up the Boost Juice website (www.boostjuice.com.au). Divide the class into 7 groups to
research the 7 different segments on the website:
Who is boost
Boost menu
Wheat grass
Locations
Vibe club
Boost catering
Boost jobs
-
Each group can then report back on the information that is available through the website.
Following this, the class could look on the website for the information that is required by
Boost Juice on their Boost Juice Franchise Application Form. Discuss why Boost Juice would
require all the information that must be forwarded. Why would Boost Juice insist on a deposit
of $3000 with each application?
Menu Item. Collect a couple of Boost Juice leaflets or go back to the Boost Juice menu on the
website. Students could create their own Smoothie or Juice Cocktail, explaining how their creation
would complement the range currently available at boost Juice.
Franchise Concept. Create your own successful Business Franchise. Students could try to think of
a new business venture that could become a successful franchise such as Boost Juice. Ideas could
be brainstormed as a class, or teams could be organised to compete against each other with a prize
awarded to the most innovative and best-presented concept.
