Courier 6i SL on-stream XRF slurry analyzer

1. Courier 6i SL analyzer
Courier 6i SL analyzer is designed for accurate and reliable on-stream X-ray fluorescence (XRF) measurement of element concentrations in slurries for up to 24 samples. The analyzer is comprised of four main components; the analyzer probe with cooling system, probe control set (PCS), sampling equipment, and the local and remote user interface PCs. The analyzer probe contains the physical components needed for the XRF analysis; the sample measurement cell, measurement channels, X-ray tube, high voltage supply, processing electronics, and temperature control. The Probe Control Set (PCS) monitors and controls the system functions; i.e., sampling and measurement sequences. The sampling equipment includes primary samplers, multiplexers (MXA), de-multiplexers (DMA), and the calibration sampler (CSA). The primary samplers take a representative sample from the process flow. The sample flow is piped to the multiplexers of the analyzer. The multiplexers direct sample streams into the measurement cell in a predefined measurement sequence, remove air and trash from the sample, and stabilize the sample flow. The calibration sampler provides a representative sample for calibration, and demultiplexers direct the reject sample flows from the calibration sampler to the desired location. The multiplexers collect composite samples from each sample stream. The Courier Local user Interface (CLI 6700) touch screen display and control switches are the process operator interface for Courier 6i SL analyzer. PCs with network connection to the Courier can be used as remote user interfaces to display analysis results, alarms, and diagnostic data anywhere. The analyzer can be accessed remotely for customer support in parameter setup, status monitoring, and diagnostic data evaluation. Figure 1. Courier 6i SL analyzer probe

2. Performance Data
The Courier 6i SL analyzer is a high performance device for measuring element concentrations in slurries. 2.1. Analysis method The analysis method is Wavelength Dispersive Xray Fluorescence (WDXRF) with X-ray tube excitation and fixed crystal spectrometers. An additional Energy Dispersive (EDXRF) measurement can be performed by using an optional proportional counter and/or a Peltier cooled solid state detector. 2.2. Element range The element range is from Calcium to Uranium (atomic numbers 20 to 92). 2.3. Measurement time Depending on the application, the measurement time is 1530 seconds per stream, leading to a total cycle time of 914 minutes per 18 streams and 1218 minutes per 24 streams. With two multiplexers the total cycle time is 911 minutes per 12 streams.

Courier 6i SL Datasheet 2.4. Number of simultaneous assays The Courier 6i SL analyzer probe can have up to 6 parallel measurement channels, based on either fixed spectrometers (WDXRF) or energy dispersive detectors (EDXRF). The number of simultaneous assays is dependent on the application; in practice one can measure simultaneously 1-12 element concentrations and the solids content of the slurry. 2.5. Count rate There are up to 30 000 counts per second for each WDXRF measurement channel, which gives excellent counting statistics even with short measuring times. 2.6. Concentration range The concentration range is from 0.002 to 100% by weight for slurries. 2.7. Detection limit The detection limit for most elements is 330 ppm in slurries. For Chrome and lighter elements, elements from Cadmium to Promethium and with ED channels the detection limit is higher. 2.8. Precision With most elements, changes of the order of 0.01% can be detected at 1% level with a probability of 95% from a homogenous sample. 2.9. Short term stability Measured intensity stabilized to 0.1% in specified operating circumstances. 2.10. Long term stability The long-term instrument drift is compensated by automatic internal reference measurements. 2.11. High selectivity The high resolution of the crystal spectrometer allows measurements of neighboring elements with no peak overlap. For instance, 8 ppm Cu can be detected in sample with high level of Ni or Zn. 2.12. Accuracy The accuracy of a measurement is a function of the sample parameters, such as matrix composition, mineralization, and particle size. Under normal operating conditions, the following relative standard deviations are achieved for individual slurry sample measurements of concentration levels well above the relevant minimum detection limit of the analyzer. Minor concentrations 3-6% Major concentrations 1-4%

3. Specifications
3.1. Sample streams The Courier 6i SL is capable of taking up to 24 sample streams per analyzer. 3.2. Controlled sampling Controlled sampling feature increases availability of the sample lines by shutting down the sample flow and flushing the sample line periodically with water. The operation of controlled sampling is automatic, and does not need operator attendance. 3.3. Multiplexer MXA 4645.1 Pneumatically actuated sample multiplexer for 1-6 sample streams using moving hose wig wag full sample flow on/off principle. Sample is screened, de-aerated, froth destroyed and flow rate stabilized using level controlled tank before feeding the measurement cell. Composite sample collection for all sample lines is a built in feature. Composite samples can be filtered in optional vacuum filters. Primary sample flow rates: 70200 l/min (1853 GPM) recommended, 300 l/min (80 GPM) maximum, 40 l/min (10 GPM) minimum Optional de-accelerator for incoming sample streams is recommended. Primary sample line: Inlet OD 60.3 mm/G2 Primary reject flow rate and fitting: 300 l/min (80 GPM) maximum, OD 76.1 mm/G2 3.4. Measurement cell A rubber lined measurement cell with selftightening window with second protective window and moisture leakage detection. Automatic window changer (AWC) with high-tech ceramic seat for window saves time, labor and extends X-ray tube life (no shutdowns/power ups are required for window change). One roll of window material is enough for 700 window changes. The window film roll needs to be replaced typically at six month intervals. Jet sample cell provides a good analytical accuracy across wide particle size range. Flow rate: 2030 l/min (58 GPM) Input/output fitting: Hose connector OD 16mm

Courier 6i SL Datasheet 3.5. Calibration sampler CSA 4641 and 3446 The calibration sampler ensures that a representative sample is used for laboratory assaying. The calibration sampler has an automatic positioning with a feedback signal so it can be used as first stage de-multiplexing device. Outlet fitting: Hose connector OD 40 mm 3.6. De-multiplexer DMA 4642 The de-multiplexer directs the sample flow from the calibration sampler to an appropriate return location. The de-multiplexer has automatic positioning based on position feedback signal. Inlet fitting: Hose connector OD 40 mm Outlet fitting: Hose connector OD 50 mm 3.7. X-ray tube The X-ray tube is a high power 50 kV/4 mA watercooled target transmission tube, using anode target materials optimized for the application. It is energized by a stabilized high voltage and filament power supply. 3.8.
