Greetings Berkshire Families:

On Friday, February 12th, just before our Midwinter Recess, Berkshire celebrated with
our 11th consecutive year of participating in the annual Hoops for Heart basketball event.
Overall, the event was very successful and we had approximately 457 students that
participated to help raise nearly $12,000 for the American Heart Association. The
students and staff had so much fun playing basketball and showing off our Berkshire
pride to help out the greater community. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers and to
our Physical Education teachers (Erin Lincoln, Todd Wriska and Richard Forrest) for
helping to make this event so successful!

Race: Based on the incredible true story of Jesse Owens, the legendary athletic
superstar whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts
him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitlers
vision of Aryan supremacy. Race is an enthralling film about courage, determination,
tolerance, and friendship, and an inspiring drama about one mans fight to become an
Olympic legend.

PastaPalooza
Berkshire's Proud Dad's Club: Donations Sought for Pastapalooza dinner on March 3rd.
As in years past, we are planning to have a silent auction as part of this year's
Pastapalooza dinner and we desperately need help in having items of value for this
auction.
Our goal is to have several tables with items up for bid and we need our community of
families to contribute these items. Proceeds from this year's event will be used to help
with needed landscaping upgrades for the center courtyard among other school
enhancements.
Gift certificates, gift baskets, sports memorabilia, event tickets or literally anything with a
value of $20 or more (please, no used items) are being sought.
We ask you to let us know what you can do to help make this year's event a big
success! If you can't donate, we do hope you will plan to attend this year's dinner with
your friends and family. It is a fun event, with great food and a good time to interact
with other Berkshire families.
We have a goal of February 25 to have our auction items accounted for which is only a
few days away. You can drop these items off at the office or if you have questions about
what you can do to help , please reach out to one of our Proud Dads listed below.

Table Talk: Food for Thought
Dear Families,
Celebrating and honoring the life of Martin Luther King Jr. this week has served as a
catalyst for many thoughtful discussions with your students focused on our character

trait this month, Diversity. Many C3 classes have engaged in meaningful conversations
regarding diversity and all it entails. We encourage you to ask your student about
these discussions.
Other conversation starters may include:

What does diversity look like at Berkshire?

Do you consider Berkshire to be a diverse community? Why or why not?
We do YOU do at school to honor others diversity?
Discuss the following quote:
When I see you through my eyes I think we are different, but when I see
you through my heart, I know were the same. Doe Zantamata
As always, we appreciate the time you take to share these meaningful
conversations with your family. We welcome your feedback and comments.

Furthermore, as we conclude our mid-winter break, hopefully you all found time to relax,
spend time with your family, and to take a few moments to continue your conversations
reflecting upon DIVERSITY, as it relates to Black History Month. In order to help you
foster some meaningful conversations, we encourage you to use any of the starters
provided below. As always, we appreciate your feedback and comments.
There are many famous, well know African Americans who we can identify
by name and/or by the contribution they have made to better the lives of others.
However there are many others who have made equally as important
contributions but are little known figures in history. See if you can identify the
contributions made by these important men and women.

Edward Bouchet,
Bessie Coleman
Matthew Alexander Henson

Discuss this quote:

We should emphasize not Negro History, but the Negro in history. What we need is not
a history of selected races or nations, but the history of the world void of national bias,
race hate, and religious prejudice. ~Carter Woodson, 1926
