Veteran Scholarships

These scholarships are specifically designated for veteran students or include veterans as a preferential category.

Opportunities are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies, with some scholarships applicable to both levels of education.

 

 

VFW Student Veteran Support

Scholarships for​ junior enlisted (E-4 and below) Veterans or active duty service members.​ These opportunities provide service members and Veterans with the financial assistance they need to complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt.

AFCEA War Veterans Scholarship

The AFCEA Educational Foundation will be providing merit-based scholarships of $2,500 to honorably discharged Veterans and active duty servicemembers enrolled in eligible STEM majors.

Tillman Scholarship

The Pat Tillman Foundation identifies remarkable military service members, Veterans and spouses, empowering them with academic scholarships, lifelong leadership development opportunities and a diverse, global community of high-performing mentors and peers.

Johnathan and Emily Woolworth Endowed Veteran Scholarship*

This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students pursuing their first bachelor's degree. Applicants must be honorably discharged Veterans or the spouses of disabled Veterans, with documented service and a Certificate of Eligibility from the VA. Preference is given to Veterans with a service-related disability, followed by Veterans, veteran spouses, and then children of Veterans. Applicants must also be Pell-eligible and have completed the FAFSA to determine unmet financial need, and they must be using VA educational benefits in the upcoming academic year. The Bauers Family Endowed Veteran Scholarship*

This scholarship is veteran specific and can be applied for using PSU's Scholarship Universe.

The Walter C & Mary Bolton Memorial Veterans Endowment Scholarship*

This scholarship is available to both undergraduate and graduate students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to students currently serving on active duty, honorably discharged Veterans from any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, and National Guard or Reserve members who have been federally mobilized for 180 days or more of active service. Specialty Veteran Scholarships

This section features specialty opportunities tailored for specific groups within the veteran community, such as minority- and branch-specific scholarships. These scholarships help to address the unique needs and backgrounds of certain veterans.

 

Army Women's Foundation

The Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship Program provides grants to women soldiers, past and present, and their lineal descendants to help them attain their educational goals. The AWF Legacy Scholarship Program offers financial support in four areas: Certificate Programs, Community College coursework, Undergraduate Degrees, and Graduate Degrees.

BHW Group's Women in STEM Scholarship

Available to women who are pursuing an undergraduate or master's degree and are ​majoring in STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) ​during the 2021 school year.​

Fleet Reserve Association

The Fleet Reserve Association Education Foundation sponsors a scholarship program that helps deserving students (​affiliated with the US Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard, veteran or dependent)​ with up to $5,000 for trade school, community, four year college, and graduate degrees.

The Returning Veterans Scholarship*

This scholarship is designed for returning Veterans who are receiving less than 100% of their GI Benefits. It offers additional financial support to help bridge the gap and ensure access to education. This scholarship can be applied for using PSU's Scholarship Universe.

Dr. Joe and Mrs. Gwen Pierce Scholarship*

This scholarship is available to undergraduate students in the Department of Anthropology or the School of Social Work. Preference is given to students who are military Veterans or have a disability and are in good academic standing. This scholarship can be applied for using PSU's Scholarship Universe.

First-Year Prime Music Instrumentalist Scholarship*

This scholarship is for first-year undergraduate students who are residents of Oregon and enrolled as instrumentalists in PSU School of Music & Theater ensembles. Preference is given to students who play instruments in short supply, have experience in rural environments, or are affiliated with the military (Veterans, National Guard, Reserve members, or those with military-connected parents). Financial need is required, and the scholarship is renewable based on available funds. This scholarship can be applied for using PSU's Scholarship Universe.

Stuart and Barbara Hood Family Scholarship*

This scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate juniors and seniors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with demonstrated financial need. Priority is given to U.S. military Veterans, with eligibility requiring PELL grant qualification and an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $3,500 or less. This scholarship can be applied for using PSU's Scholarship Universe.

Bartsch Family Scholarship*

This scholarship is for undergraduate juniors and seniors majoring in Business who are Oregon residents or attended an Oregon high school. Preference is given to Veterans. This scholarship can be applied for using PSU's Scholarship Universe.

Stephen Babcock Memorial Scholarship*

This scholarship is available to undergraduate juniors, seniors, or post-baccalaureate students majoring in Accounting or Finance with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference is given to students who are Veterans. This scholarship can be applied for using PSU's Scholarship Universe.

Reserve/National Guard Scholarships

This section features scholarships and benefits specifically designed for members of the National Guard and Reserves.

 

Ch. 1606 Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve

The Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) program offers up to 36 months of education and training benefits for members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard.

Dedicated Army National Guard (DEDNG) Scholarship

The DEDNG scholarship is available for up to four years but does not allow simultaneous use with the Chapter 1606/MGIB-SR or Chapter 1607/REAP GI Bills.

Recipients receive full tuition or full room and board (flat rate of $10,000 per year), plus up to $1,200 for books, and are paid a monthly stipend of $420 for 10 months each year. In addition to a monthly allowance, they can also receive the drill pay of a sergeant, approximately $319 per month, when they participate in the SMP.

Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship

The GRFD scholarship is mainly for students entering their junior year of college. GRFD scholarships are available for up to two years and allow simultaneous use with the Chapter 1606/MGIB-SR or Chapter 1607/REAP GI Bills.

GRFD recipients (dedicated or not) can choose either full tuition and fees or room and board (flat rate of $10,000 per year) and receive $1,200 for books. They are given an ROTC allowance for 10 months of the year at $420 per month. As a member of the Guard, they will also receive drill pay.

Oregon National Guard Association Scholarship

Scholarships for attendance at an accredited college, university, trade, or business school shall be granted to active members of the Oregon Army and Air National Guard, Members of the Oregon National Guard Association (ORNGA), and/or their dependent children, or spouses.

Oregon National Guard State Tuition Assistance

The Oregon National Guard State Tuition Assistance (ONGSTA) program provides funding for current Oregon National Guard Members enrolled in an eligible Oregon postsecondary institutions for undergraduate tuition, certain fees, and a book allowance. The grant can be used for up to 90 credits at Oregon community colleges and up to 180 quarter credits/120 semester credits at eligible Oregon universities and colleges.

The Darlene Hooley Scholarship

This scholarship is to support eligible students who are attending an Oregon educational institution of higher learning and have served or are serving in support of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). Eligible applicants must be currently serving or previously served in the Oregon National Guard or in a Military Reserve Component after 9/11 and deployed overseas supporting the GWOT.

The My Career Advancement Account Scholarship is a workforce development program that provides up to $4,000 in financial assistance to eligible military spouses for the pursuit or maintenance (including continuing education courses) of a license, certification, or associate's degree necessary to gain employment in an occupation or career field.

Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program

The Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program is a need-based scholarship program established to assist Army spouses in obtaining an undergraduate degree or similar professional certification. The program was named after Mrs. Shinseki in December 2019.

NMFA Military Spouse Scholarships

Since 2004, the National Military Family Association has cheered on military spouses by awarding scholarships to help pay for everything from GEDs to PhDs, professional licenses and certifications, which includes relicensure, business and entrepreneurial expenses, supervised clinical hours, continuing education courses and more.

Military Child Scholarships

American Legion Legacy Scholarship

Available for children or legally adopted children of active duty U.S. military and Guard, and Reserve personnel who were federalized and died on active duty on or after September 11, 2001.

AFCEA iWorks Scholarship

The iWorks Scholarship will award one $2,500 scholarship to an outstanding spouse or child of a U.S. military service member who shows a potential to excel in college studies in the area of STEM. This $2,500 scholarship will be applied towards the student's ongoing higher-level academic education. Student must attend an accredited Community College or four-year college/university. This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students.

Fisher House Scholarships for Military Children

The Scholarships for Military Children Program was created to recognize military families' contributions to the fighting force's readiness and to celebrate the commissary's role in the military family community. Five hundred (500) scholarship grants, each for $2,000, will be awarded for the academic school year 2024-2025. There will be at least one recipient selected at every commissary location where qualified applications are received.

Army Scholarship Foundation

The Army Scholarship Foundation awards one-year financial scholarships (not grants or loans) on an annual basis to qualified and deserving students. The amount of award ranges from $500 to $2000 for undergraduate studies at accredited educational/technical institutions.
