Emily Atack’s mum Kate Robbins referred to the father of The Inbetweeners star's child as her 'nephew' in an unearthed social media post. Emily announced she was expecting her first child last week and her babby daddy is scientist Dr Alistair Garner .
But on Wednesday, reports started to circulate that 34-year-old Emily knew the father of her child for 30 years before they struck up a romance and 37-year-old Alistair’s step-mum is actually actress Kate’s sister, which makes the parents-to-be step-cousins . Emily's aunt Jane Garner is said to have met Alistair’s late dad Stephen Garner during the early nineties and they tied the knot in 1994.
In an old Instagram post uploaded around four and a half years ago, Kate referred to Alistair as her nephew while revealing he wore her 'cringe' jacket from the 80s. Alongside a decades-old photo of herself in a denim coat, Kate also posted a photo of Alistair wearing the same jacket at Glastonbury in 2019 captioned: "In 1982 I had this rather moody publicity shot taken. Yes, cringe. Forward to 2019 Glastonbury and my nephew @bigfattyalan is wearing the same jacket (minus tassels) good recycling."
Taking to Instagram more recently on Wednesday, Emily’s 65-year-old mum Kate - best known for her roles in the likes of Spitting Image and The Couple Next Door - broke her silence after reports Emily and Alistair were related first broke by hilariously suggested she was bored of Dry January. During the first month of the year many people decide to stop drinking booze, hence its nickname. Alongside a photo of a grumpy looking girl holding balloons, Kate quipped: “When can we stop talking about Dry January?”
Reports claim nuclear scientist Alistair appears alongside Emily in family photos dating as far back as 2017 and in one can be seen with his arm wrapped around Emily’s sister Martha.
Of their relationship, a source told MailOnline : "Emily and Alistair have grown close over the past 12 months. It was unexpected but their family is delighted for them. They make a great couple and everybody is excited for their new arrival."
Doting mum Kate’s recent Instagram post comes days after she reacted to the news that her daughter was set to become a mum herself, taking once again to social media to share that she was "thrilled" about becoming a grandmother. "My baby having a baby. Could not be more thrilled if I tried," the gran-to-be gushed.
Emily first announced her pregnancy on Saturday and shared a photo of herself sporting a bump. She wrote in the caption that accompanied the selfie: "Hello everyone, it's been a little while but I'm back with some news. I'm delighted to share with you all that we're having a baby!"
She continued in the post: "I've never been so happy and utterly terrified at the same time. Please go easy on me. Every day is mixed with thrill, fear, joy, hysteria, topped off with a lot of vomiting - a bit like when you've just stepped off of the Oblivion at Alton Towers on a hangover."
Emily then commented: "I've got to know my body on such an insane level. It's made me appreciate the one I've been given SO much, I'm doing my absolute best to make it a home for the little squid I'm growing. We can already sense the baby is reclined on a mattress of peanut butter and jam sandwiches in there, demanding more chocolate buttons."
She concluded the post on the weekend by telling her followers: "I'm so happy to be writing all of this to you all. You've always stuck by me through the years, do stick around to watch me enter my mum era. Christ. Let's go."
