Trust Over IP Foundation
- Trust Over IP (ToIP) has moved its project into the LF Decentralized Trust (LFDT) umbrella to leverage synergies with other projects. ToIP is the first JDF Standards project to join the LFDT. ToIP will be doing a webinar on the various working groups within ToIP and their current work, November 13th at 10 am PT/6 pm UTC. This webinar will also include an overview of the ToIP dual stack that includes a technical stack paired with the necessary governance stack for digital trust ecosystems. Watch for an announcement on how to register coming soon on the LF Decentralized Trust events page.
- Several ToIP members just returned from attending the Bhutan Innovation Forum. The Bhutan National Digital Identity (NDI) system is based on the ToIP stack and the ToIP Governance Metamodel Specification and Companion Guide. Enjoy this case study on the creation of the Bhutan NDI system.
- Last spring ToIP announced publication of the Trust Registries Query Protool (TRQP) first implementers draft. The Trust Registry Task Force (TRTF) is now working on updating the TRQP specification, library work, and things directly tied to implementation. Additionally the TRTF is working on discovering best practices within existing and emerging ecosystems, including governance guides, itemizing existing Trust Registries and discussing how they are approaching trust registries and trust list solutions. The TQRP is designed to allow interoperability between Digital Trust Ecosystems, creating an Ecosystem of Ecosystem. The TQRP aims to provide a simple and consistent way to discover who is authorized to do what within a specific digital trust ecosystem. In short, it enables parties to ask programmatically: Does entity X hold authorization Y under ecosystem governance framework Z?
- The KERI Suite Working Group has recently been established at ToIP to forward the work of KERI related specifications, such as, Key Event Receipt Infrastructure (KERI) specification, Authentic Chained Data Containers (ACDC) specification, Composable Event Streaming Representation (CESR) specification and DID:webs specification.
- High Assurance VID Task Force (HAVTF) has been created recently, as a task force of the ToIP Technology Stack Working Group. Its mission is to create a specification and implementation guidance for how the controller of a verifiable identifier (VID) can enable greater assurance in the integrity of that VID though mechanisms that enable the controller to bridge across different:
- VID flavors—including Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs), X.509 certificates and Domain Name System (DNS) records—to provide both higher cryptographic assurance and stronger semantic linkage; and,
- Trust realms (aka trust domains) so the same VID can be verified from more than one trust roots to increase human trust and enhance interoperability.
- This “bridged approach” to VIDs will lay the foundation for High Assurance (HA) VID Profiles that can work with many different types of VIDs. This approach allows decision-makers to choose the most suitable VID for specific contexts and purposes without foregoing interoperability between VID systems.
