We are proud to launch our updated methodology, Project Frame Methodology: Evaluating GHG Impact for Early Stage Investments! 🎉 An evolution of our 2023 guidance, Pre-Investment Considerations, this update takes us a step further by refining the original guidance based on community feedback, embedding optional adjustment factors, and providing guidance for assessing realized impact and reporting. This release also invites you to take your learnings further with our additional resources. These supplemental readings—designed to complement each section of our methodology—expand upon the guidance to explain the why and how behind essential steps, such as defining scopes of analysis, and exploring complementary frameworks, like life cycle assessments. This science-backed and consensus-based guidance is the result of 22 months of work, involving more than 31 Content Working Group Members, 36 focus group participants, and three external reviewers. Thank you to all who helped us reach this tremendous milestone—your collaboration is essential to promoting field-wide #ImpactAccountability for transparent and ambitious climate investing. While some climate solutions directly impact emissions, others enable emissions avoidance or reduction, like the commercial and industrial solar planning software we explore in our new case study. Inspired by a real investment, this case study showcases how Frame’s methodology can be applied to quantify a climate solution’s potential impact as one contributor within a value chain. We dive into assumptions like future grid emissions, based on IEA scenarios, and Frame’s recently coined "adjustment factors," including value chain attribution and rebound effects. Project Frame’s methodology guidance is just that: guidance, as exemplified by Content Working Group Member Future Energy Ventures at our last Community Meeting. FEV’s Investment Associate & Impact and ESG Lead Natalie Milde explained that while some in Frame consider adjustment factors last when quantifying impact, FEV tackles it at the unit impact stage when assessing the potential impact of a technology Learn more about FEV’s approach to impact with the full walkthrough of their Frame case study on our blog: https://lnkd.in/ev_P_jm9 #ImpactAccountability #ImpactInvesting #ClimateTech #ClimateInvesting.

What’s our why? Frame Content Working Group member Chloe Coates, Research & Analysis Lead at Zero Carbon Capital, summed it up perfectly. “Forward-looking emissions impact assessment is a critical part of our investment process; we want to allocate capital to the most impactful technologies for decarbonisation. Project Frame's methodology is extremely useful as guidance and the investor profiles show how it is applied in practice by leading climate investors. We hope this can drive more capital towards decarbonisation technologies, help investors determine meaningful future impact, and help LPs select the funds that do just that,” she said. Thank you to steering Committee member Green Artha for inviting Frame Senior Associate Sultan Zelei and Prime Coalition Senior Impact Manager Claudia Alejandra Leon to contribute to their latest, “2024 The India Climate Finance Report.” Sultan and Claudia shared findings from Prime’s research into barriers and opportunities for catalytic capital deployment in India and highlighted how Frame’s community and resources addresses those gaps by providing tools and resources for high-impact climate investing. Read the full report 👇
🌍In the 2024 India Climate Finance Report, the Impact Investors Council (IIC) highlights the record capital entering India’s climate ecosystem, significant trends around types of funders in the ecosystem and what is enabling this interesting market evolution. But for this momentum to scale, precise impact measurement is essential. As investment flows into climate tech continue to surge, the need for robust measurement mechanisms becomes more critical than ever. Project Frame is enabling stronger funding flows by offering tools that assess forward-looking GHG impact, ensuring capital is directed to projects that deliver measurable climate benefits. Together, increased investment and solid measurement frameworks create a powerful feedback loop, driving both trust and scale in climate finance. The future of climate funding lies at the intersection of capital and accountability. Project Frame reposted this
Together with an amazing group of climate-focused VCs in the Project Frame community, we’ve been working hard on developing a collection of impact case studies on real-life investments. They have now all been released 🎉 and our own Natalie Milde presented our work in a recent webinar (link in comments!) featuring also Sam Levac-Levey of Starshot Capital. At Future Energy Ventures, we’re proud to showcase how we conduct pre-investment impact assessments, as we believe demystifying impact is key to driving meaningful action—and we need investors to converge around a shared language on this topic 🌍✨ These case studies don’t just stop at theory; they come with Excel models and all the details needed for any investor to replicate the methodology for their own investments. Transparency and collaboration are how we scale impact. Now, grab a coffee, enjoy the webinar, and reach out if you have thoughts on the topic 💚 #Innovation #CaseStudy #Sustainability #ClimateTech
