On 11–12 November the Asian Development Bank (ADB), The World Bank, and IFC - International Finance Corporation held a joint retreat for the transport sector. The retreat discussed current and future assistance to both public and private sector clients, the challenges and opportunities facing the region and how best the two funding institutions can collaborate to deliver sustainable transport solutions. Delighted to have participated in the UK-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum, at the invitation of UK Export Finance to discuss how we can advance trade and investment between the #UK and the #Caribbean. The address by The Right Honourable David Lammy, UK Foreign Secretary, was an unexpected treat and it was heartening to hear the commitment to do more in the Caribbean. What we know is this: - #Infrastructure drives economic growth and development, which is high on the regional agenda. There are significant infrastructure gaps in the Caribbean and governments alone cannot do this. - The #UK 🇬🇧 has a strong track record of developing high quality infrastructure. UK firms are already operating in the Caribbean and are seeking opportunities to do more. - We can attract private capital and expertise to the Caribbean through well structured #PPPs leveraging UK expertise and capital to advance Caribbean infrastructure development - It is incumbent on the Caribbean to properly prepare and structure PPPs to attract strong players. The UK Export Finance can provide project finance and partner with other financiers to help make this a reality Excellent two days of dialogue which opened a window to strengthening cooperation between the UK and the Caribbean. 📊 IFC - International Finance Corporation’s FY24 investments spanned sectors essential to Africa’s economic development and resilience, from clean energy and agriculture to manufacturing and digital connectivity. IFC’s $14.2 billion commitment—it’s biggest ever commitment to the continent—is enabling growth across Africa by addressing infrastructure gaps, strengthening value chains, and driving job creation. For example, last fiscal year IFC invested nearly $200 million to support food security and the sustainable agriculture and construction sectors in Morocco and beyond, helping to address critical food needs and bolster agricultural resilience. In Côte d'Ivoire, we partnered with the Ministry of Health on two public-private partnerships to enhance laboratory and imaging services in 14 public hospitals, improving healthcare for local communities.
