While gains have been made in reducing the number of Malaria-related deaths, the infection is still a serious health risk for communities in low- and middle-income countries. Malaria is also a significant financial burden. From a Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) article, "A recent study estimated that reducing malaria by 90 percent by 2030 could increase the GDP of the countries in sub-Saharan Africa with the highest malaria burden by $16 billion a year."
