Last month, at the NSW ACPS Chairman's dinner, Luke Christiansen from our ALS Coal Maitland facility received the prestigious Bill McKay Medal for 2024. Luke is a third-year Chemical Engineering student at Newcastle University who has shown exceptional competency in his studies and a strong interest in pursuing a career in the coal processing industry. Last month, we celebrated Greg’s incredible milestone—30 years of dedication, loyalty, and hard work! Over the past three decades, Greg has been much more than just a colleague; he has been a mentor, a leader, and a true inspiration to all of us. His passion for his work and commitment to excellence have positively impacted our team and the entire organisation. On Tuesday 5th November, ALS Newcastle hosted the TAFE NSW - Certificate 3 & 4 – Laboratory Techniques Students and Teachers. During the visit, the participants were given a comprehensive tour of the Newcastle Coal Laboratory, highlighting its state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. The team showcased the laboratory's various testing procedures, looking at the analytical processes that support the coal industry. The session also allowed ALS Newcastle to demonstrate its commitment to supporting our local school and TAFE students. Who knows there may be a future Lab Supervisor or Manager amongst them.

On the 8th of November, Katie West, Andrew White and Adrian Reifenstein attended the Australian Coal Preparation Society’s Chairperson’s Dinner at the Brisbane City Hall. It was a great night with good company and a rocking band. It was also a good opportunity to mingle with people from the coal processing side of our business in a friendly but formal setting.   #ACPS

ALS Coal’s Emerging Leaders Program Over the past year, several staff members have taken part in ALS Coal's Emerging Leaders Program. The purpose of our program is to establish a professional mentoring relationship that will provide our Emerging Leaders with the opportunity to gain valuable insights and different perspectives. The program aims to build leadership skills, support personal and professional growth as well as enabling our organisation to build talent within.  We sincerely thank all the mentors and mentees who joined our inaugural Emerging Leaders Program at ALS Coal. Your dedication and contributions have made a significant impact. We look forward to continuing our journey of growth and inspiration together.

ALS provides high-quality, NATA accredited gas desorption testing in conjunction with site and lab geological services. ALS has worked on hundreds of desorption projects across Australia and Mongolia providing gas content and composition results for the coal seam gas and coal mining industries. The data provided from these projects are predominantly used in the industries of CSG exploration, environmental reporting for coal mine carbon management and underground mine outburst risk management. ALS is pleased to announce that the first Coal Quality Course of 2024 will be held in Emerald, Queensland. This course is from the 20-22 February 2024, at the Mayfair Hotel. If you have staff that want to expand their knowledge of the entire coal chain, this is the ideal course.
