𝟭,𝟯-𝗕𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗲 is a colorless, flammable gas with a mild gasoline-like odor and the chemical formula C₄H₆. It consists of a four-carbon chain with two double bonds and is widely used as a monomer in producing synthetic rubber (like styrene-butadiene rubber used in tires) and plastics such as ABS. 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐝 Acts as a volatile organic compound (VOC) contributing to the formation of ground-level ozone (smog) when reacting with nitrogen oxides in sunlight. Spills or leaks can lead to localized water contamination, posing risks to aquatic life despite its low water solubility. Classified as a 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝟏 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 by the IARC, indicating it poses significant cancer risks with prolonged exposure. Chronic exposure can lead to reproductive and developmental effects in humans and animals. 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝 At ALS Malaysia, for the purpose of achieving low-level detection, it is recommended to use EPA TO-17 as the sampling and analysis method for 1,3-butadiene and other VOCs. This method utilizes thermal desorption tubes and analysis by TD-GCMS. #VOC #AirQuality #Butadiene #LabAnalysis #Environment

A foot expedition into the heart of the Krau Wildlife Reserve in Pahang, Malaysia, was organized by Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) Malaysia to study the Orang Asal (Indigenous people of Malaysia). The expedition took place from October 25 to October 30, 2024, covering a distance of approximately 90 kilometres. The group of 20 participants included students and researchers from UTHM, as well as representatives from Copenhagen Zoo and ALS Malaysia, represented by Dr. Akmal. The team conducted animal surveys and gained new insights from the Orang Asal. ALS Malaysia also took the opportunity to provide water filters to the villagers encountered along the route under their CSR programme, ALS CARES. This simple water filtration device, created by Malaysian inventor Mr. Robest Yong, could help rural communities filter their water source for easy consumption. #ALSMalaysia #ALSCARES
