Weed Strategy Results, Five Months In
How to Grow Your Business Like a Weed has been out for five months, and I’ve been applying Weed Strategy the whole time, to grow my business and the book. So I thought I’d share the results so far.
I’m under no illusion that, without Weed Strategy, I wouldn’t have been growing my business and book, but the model has given me a completely new framework to understand the mechanism of growth. And that has greatly accelerated and multiplied everything.
Weeds deal with what is. They never do anything without an unfair advantage. They never do anything alone. They always focus on what makes them win. And they thrive in disrupted ground. That’s the framework that has produced an entirely new approach to building a business, or growing anything really.
The weeds implore us to team up with the smartest people we know. To stop toiling under 1:1 leverage. And they tell us we need as many unfair advantages as possible. We must always be cultivating more. This is a glimpse of what that looks like.
Collaborations: My business has been transformed by building around a portfolio of collaborations. These aren’t just a loose set of conversations about, “Hey, let’s collaborate!” It’s an organized set of collaboration concepts set up as business units. Each unit is well defined, with compelling spread elements ready to share. Already, there are more than a dozen lined up, with some of the most impressive thought leaders, authors, entrepreneurs and top organizations I know. They include joint ventured agency work, growth summits, paid masterminds, media partnerships and more. These should explode in the year ahead.
Dozen collaborations with top influencers/Strategy summits: The collaborations have allowed me to team with people and organizations I never would have thought possible, to do things I never thought possible. One form of those is a new series of weekend strategy summits for no more than a dozen people, held in exotic locations around the world.
New paid mastermind with two giant entrepreneurial influencers: Starting next year, I will team with two huge entrepreneurial thought leaders to produce a new paid mastermind. The combination of our content/thought leadership will produce a powerful new channel to help business owners explode the scale of their businesses, especially as we head toward recession.
New agency growth: I run an agency to help sales teams break through to their most important prospects and accounts. Not sure if Weed Strategy caused it, but the agency has seen an increase in business since instituting Weed Strategy, and there may be new agency forming in Europe. Certainly, helping sales teams connect with more of their top prospects is a pathway to growth—and a totally unfair advantage, just as the weeds would advise.
New annual award: The Total Weed Award will start honoring particularly weed-like spread and growth among entrepreneurs, startups and investors, every Spring, just as the weeds are emerging across the Northern Hemisphere. This will involve partnerships with major sponsors, business media outlets and a major stock exchange. Coverage and sales of the book will surely spread like a weed as well.
Productization/Partnership with major channels: Much of my agency work is 1:1 leverage, and the weeds have pushed me to scale it up. So much of my bespoke creative work will convert to products easily added to cadences through major sales enablement platforms. Watch for Stu Heinecke-branded contact device collections available one-at-a-time, shipped overnight.
New brand partnerships: Seed Strategy within the Weeds model has helped me see that each of my books, and my own name, are each brands that can be leveraged into partnerships with major financial, insurance, executive placement and sales enablement brands with huge sales teams. New deals are brewing.
All of these will be cross-pollinating even more collaborations, channels and opportunities. That’s the nature of weeds, and certainly the nature of Weed Strategy as applied to business.
Well, gotta run. I’m heading to a meeting with a TV producer to explore a new reality show, based on—you guessed it—Weed Strategy.
The weeds would totally approve.

2yI love that you've shared all of these business/revenue/brand-building avenues you've got going, Stu. First, I'm just stoked for you and for how it is proving your Weed Strategy. But also, it instantly gets my brain going in the right direction in terms of what's possible out there. I have to admit, even though I'm going through the book (and loving it), I haven't connected the dots quite yet in terms of applying Weed Strategy to what I've got going. This article has helped me get closer to that.
