We are so accustomed to trying to find the easy way out of doing things that we often avoid them entirely because they may take us out of our comfort zone. We become so used to repeating to ourselves, "I don't think I can do this or that" or "I'll look at this tomorrow" that we become expert procrastinators, convincing ourselves with excellent reasons why we shouldn't do something. We end up with an arsenal of reasons why something should not be done, or at least not right now. It's easy to fall into the "sheeple" syndrome, where we just go with the flow.
As we approach the last 90 days of the year, there's a common belief that things are winding down for Christmas. I say "belief" because this is what we are led to believe. People are tired and looking forward to a short vacation, so the strong efforts we put into everything at the beginning of the year become distant memories, seemingly not applicable to the last few months because "everyone" has taken their foot off the gas. This is what I would call a perfect excuse to conform, to abdicate our enthusiasm and work ethic, and to descend to the level of least resistance, where mediocrity resides. We see physical changes in the stores with advertising about Halloween, and simultaneously about Christmas. All this physical evidence of change leads us to subconsciously think it's fine to begin relaxing, allowing our minds to drift into dreams of where we’ll be at Christmas and New Year. This, of course, marks the beginning of a huge distraction, pulling our focus away from the realities of our scheduled workload and the priorities at hand.
It takes a level of courage to go against the current and extricate ourselves from these temptations. If we look objectively at what we should do versus what we want to do, the decision becomes more difficult. This is when we need to address the cobwebs in our minds, putting all the difficult decisions into that web. Everything that holds us back from maintaining the momentum we established earlier in the year should be immediately identified and enthusiastically thrown into the cobweb to stay there. We might even visualize the cobweb full of these heavy things that weigh us down, so that we can fly toward what should be done and who we truly want to be and achieve.
With equal enthusiasm, we should embrace the plan to rise above the crowd and triple down on our efforts to double our business in the last quarter. While everyone else is resting, we should take on the challenge of turbocharging our efforts toward success. With even more enthusiasm than we had at the beginning of the year, when we dreamed of what we would like to accomplish, now is the time to get in gear and have fun with it. I believe it’s essential to approach whatever challenges we face with a light-hearted attitude, which makes winning even more enjoyable. We can almost hypnotize ourselves into believing that this will be a huge success and that we’ll have fun achieving it.
Think of the last quarter of the year as a sprint, much like the final leg of a horse race, when every ounce of strength is summoned. It can be a truly exhilarating feeling to go beyond expected results and achieve something far greater. I often find motivation in the expressions of Olympic medalists, where the pain of effort is eclipsed by the utter joy and satisfaction of the result.
Are you enthusiastically embracing the final leg of this year?

2moGood reminder Lawrence Cazan Cassini. I love the point you made about the changes in stores and how it impacts our subconscious. I think we do get an opportunity to think of this last quarter as a sprint and keep focused!
