Take this quote to heard, and your life/career will shift in powerful ways.
Being a mom is all the things: its exciting, its meaningful, its special, its chaotic, its difficult, its rewarding.
I think back to how my own mom would mentor me pn life, on love, on motherhood, and I would often half-listen, or even poo-poo what she was saying. Given some time and more experience, her voice would subtly filter into my consciousness, my brain replaying her words with full acknowledgment "she was so right, and I had no idea!"
Because there are some things that we just can't fathom until we are living it, and so much of that for me is in motherhood.
As a mom, we are the disciplinarians, we are the teachers, we are the chefs, we are the chaffeurs, we are the Chief Life Organizers, we are everything to them.
Thats why this quote is so important, so life-changing, if you really take a moment to let it set in....
The ONLY Place You aren't replaceable is at home.
I have seen this saying dozens of times. It would catch my eye, I would ponder it briefly, then move forward with my day.
But it lodged somewhere in my brain, taking root, and over the years, it has become a sort of barometer by which I started measuring my life, my career, what I say yes and what I say no to.
We, as humans, have an innate desire for meaning and purpose because it gives structure and direction to our lives. Many of us seek fulfillment through work, believing that our careers can provide a sense of identity and achievement. Work often becomes a reflection of personal values and aspirations, offering a way to contribute and feel valuable. Without purpose, people can feel adrift, which is why many turn to their professions to define and validate their existence.
But you are always replaceable at work.
No matter your background, your achievements, how much money you brought in for the company last year, there is someone who can backfill you. We don't often want to admit that, because it means our work, as it turns out, is not THAT meaningful afterall. Its just the facts
But what is also a fact: There is only one you. You are a daughter, a mother, a sister. You are irreplaceable, because you are you and you are unique. If you were lost, your brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, and children would mourn. It would be a huge loss.
Sure someone could make meals, someone could drive your kids around, but it would never replace YOU. What you give, who you are, what you MEAN.
When we let this quote take hold, when we hold it up to our decision making, our lives will change. It truly brings about a powerful shift in the psyche and decision making process.
RETURN TO OFFICE MANDATES: Are YOU Ready for it?
Amazon is all over the news with their Return to Work Mandate, not just a few days per week, but FIVE DAYS PER WEEK!
And while I wholeheartedly agree with INC's ARTICLE on why this is a huge mistake, that is irrelevant isn't it? It's happening, whether we like it or not.
Yes it might cost them a competitive edge for recruitment.
Yes, people will leave.
Yes, it is absolutely affecting WORKING MOMS disproportionately.
Do they care? Nope.
Who is to say driving people out isn't the intent? This is actually a strategy companies have employed for decades to reduce employee count bloat or cut people costs: take away incentives, change the structure, see how many people we can get to leave in order to avoid a formal Reduction In Forces (aka RIF).
"Its not personal, its just business."
The real question is: who is next? Typically, we see big companies make a big move, then others follow.
Stay ready. Get your resume primed. Make sure you have your accomplishments outlined and your arguments for why YOU deserve an exception ready. Because it could happen, to anyone, any time.
