‘SMART’ – Not just for goals, but for life!

‘SMART’ – Not just for goals, but for life!

We would have heard the acronym ‘Smart’ a zillion times in the context of goal setting. The aspect that goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic / Relevant and Timely reverberate over and over whenever we embark on a goal setting exercise.

If this is for goal setting specifically in our corporate lives; How about goals that we set for ourselves to shape our lives in general? Having ruminated on this question, I have used the same acronym 'Smart' but with different connotations and interpretations, as illustrated below.

I have shared this new acronym of Smart with my students and mentees. Also made it as a Leadership Credo – an important learning from Columbia Business School.

Now, would like to share with you all.
