The Gift of Time
For the past two decades I have been a sponge, soaking up all the information that I could listen to, read, or see. My main focus has been the vast world of education with a special focus on leadership at all levels. I believe in student leadership, teacher leadership, and the complex and adaptable leadership qualities and skills that are necessary for executives to be successful and sustainable. I believe that parents, coaches, friends, and family can serve as leaders.
Early in my career, I was interested in knowing more about various leadership styles and what successful leaders had in common, then I wanted to become a better leader by implementing various techniques and strategies through trial and error. After 20+ years of calculated experimentation, I have made my fair share of errors but have also experienced much success and now possess a deeper understanding of how to repeat success.
Having attended over thirty educational conferences during my career, worked in 6 educational institutions, and been directly connected to over 100 schools, I have learned a lot. I have read thousands of articles, hundreds of books, and have completed advanced degrees and diplomas in Educational Leadership. I have also and most importantly benefited tremendously from the wisdom and generosity of many accomplished school leaders. These human connections have been powerfully enlightening and invigorating. I have learned more from a handful of education leaders than from all that I have ever read. The difference is that the author of a book will share what he or she wants to tell you whereas a mentor will share what he or she thinks you need to grow and that makes all the difference in the world.
All of this has made me who I am today and as of today I want to share it with you.
I will continue to read but now I will also write.
I will continue to learn but now I will also teach.
I will continue to be mentored but will also mentor.
I have been given so much and now it is time to give back.
I look forward to sharing thoughts, insights, knowledge, and experiences with you throughout 2017 and I hope to inspire some, inform others, and engage many.
