This week we are focusing on Understanding Own Emotions & Triggers and Self-control and Regulation
Emotional triggers can be almost anything. One must be able to manage these triggers, especially at work. Anything that sparks off strong emotions such as anger, fear, or sadness is some of the reasons why a person feels emotionally triggered. Complex emotions such as grief, loss, and burnout are also included. Certainly, being able to identify and deal with your emotional triggers is a vital component of good emotional health which is a necessary skill as a professional.
It is inevitable that the workplace environment will be extremely stressful and fast-paced sometimes. There is also a possibility wherein you will be surrounded by people whom you don’t feel comfortable working with. There are times you have poorly reacted or negatively responded over a certain situation or person that made you emotionally frustrated. It is important that you know how to manage your emotional triggers at work.
In order for you to manage it effectively, one of the feasible ways you could do is to make stress your ally instead of seeing it as your enemy. Moreover, managing your emotions could lead to positive leadership. With that, the following articles might help you understand your emotions more effectively: How to Face Emotional Triggers: A 5-Step Process, How to Control Your Emotions so Your Emotions Don't Control You, and 5 Easy Steps to Control Your Emotions.
On one hand, the ability to control and regulate emotions is also an important part when you are at work. Learning how to self-regulate emotions is not innate in human nature, rather an acquired skill that can be developed through the process of learning. In the workplace, there are strategies, ways to increase self-control, and emotional regulation skills you can use to manage your negative emotions. In addition to this, the following articles may also help you understand the importance of self-control in your personal life and at work: How to Have Self-Control and Be the Master of Your Life, How Self-Reflection Gives You a Happier and More Successful Life, and How to avoid triggers in the workplace.
At the end of the day, workers who have mastered self-control can temper what they want to make sure that they do not overreact or underreact. More so, being able to practice self-control just shows utmost empathy towards your future self.
