Creating a Family

Creating a Family

I’m very excited to share that in February I welcomed an amazing little girl into my world. She burst my heart wide open and made me a first-time Mom at 47. As I updated my LinkedIn status to reflect my maternity leave, I decided to create this post to provide more details. As with many decisions on my path in life, it certainly wasn’t a conventional one. For as long as I can remember, I’ve just always assumed I would be a mother and have a beautiful family, and as life passed by and it didn’t happen in a conventional way, I pursued the path of solo motherhood via IVF.

At two months in I can confess that this was the absolute best decision I’ve ever made. She is an extraordinary baby. What’s not to love about a baby that can sleep a solid 8 hours at 2 months old? She actually smiled at me the other morning when I picked her up out of the crib. My heart melted. As hard as my path was to get pregnant, there are certain advantages to stepping into motherhood at a mature age, I feel very grounded, and appreciative, and don’t feel like there’s anything I’m missing out on by investing my time in family. I’ve had more than my share of life experiences – living abroad, extensive travel, working in high-risk ventures, building my own business – so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. At this point, I also feel very established in my business and don’t have to worry about a colleague snapping up a promotion or new opportunity I had my eye on. I see so many clients struggle with “getting behind” in their careers when they step away to have children, and it’s a very real worry.

One of the biggest decisions I made was to shut down my coaching biz for the year and enjoy a full 10-month maternity leave to appreciate my little miracle and build strong bonds with her. I’ve also paused the podcast for now as well. I’ll be back to full-time coaching in January 2023, and onboarding clients starting in November of 2022.
