Research suggests the need to tip the balance in favor of workers - increasing the enjoyment that nurses, teachers, factory workers, and other deskless employees experience at work. In their latest article Deborah Lovich and Gabrielle Giessen’s studies show that when deskless employees enjoy their work, they’re 62% less likely to consider leaving their jobs. They suggest that to boost employee satisfaction without sacrificing productivity, it’s up to business leaders—not just HR—to redesign the work experience. Happy Workers' Day! Let's Value People, Not Just Profits...Workers are not mere instruments for generating profit. Today, on Workers' Day, we honor the contributions and dedication of employees. As we celebrate their hard work and commitment, let us also acknowledge the importance of treating employees as human beings, not just instruments for generating profit. Employees are the backbone of any organization, and their well-being and dignity are crucial to their productivity and job satisfaction. Reducing them to mere profit-generating machines can lead to burnout, demotivation, and a lack of purpose. It is essential to recognize their humanity and treat them with respect, empathy, and compassion. When employees feel valued and appreciated, they become more engaged, creative, and invested in their work. They are more likely to go above and beyond, innovate, and drive growth. On the other hand, treating them as mere instruments can lead to high churn, absenteeism, and decreased morale. As we move forward, let us prioritize employee well-being, provide fair compensation and benefits, and foster a positive work environment. Let us recognize the humanity of workers and treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve. it's my humble opinion that as Leaders, we must: 1) Recognise employees' humanity and individuality 2) Treat them with respect, empathy, and compassion 3) Prioritise their well-being and job satisfaction 4) Providing fair compensation and benefits 5) Foster a positive work environment 6) Encourage work-life balance 7) Support employee growth and development Let's remember, employees are the heart of any organization, and treating them with dignity and respect is not only the right thing to do but also a sound business strategy. #WorkersDay #EmployeeWellbeing #Respect #Humanity Let's start a conversation! How can we better prioritize the well-being and value of our employees in the workplace?

We know that employee well-being is critical to organizational success, and enhancing well-being is among the most frequently mentioned workforce trends identified by experts. Organizations seem to acknowledge this reality and have started investing heavily in programs designed to enhance well-being: fitness classes, mental health support, healthier food choices at work, etc. Despite this, they leave out one critically important driver of employee well-being— their pay. https://lnkd.in/ePaSiMmT #hr #strategy #management #emlyon Gordon Sayre emlyon business school

The new workplace term “Fauxductivity” is picking up steam 💨 It’s the act of employees faking productivity instead of doing actual work. And before you run off and blame workers for being lazy... WHY should they work hard? 😓Promotions aren’t attractive anymore. 😓78% of workers have been promoted without the pay bump. 💰They aren’t paid what they’re worth. 💰41% of employees feel they are underpaid. 😑And work is unfulfilling. 😑79% of employees are disengaged. Here's an excerpt from our upcoming book EMPLOYMENT IS DEAD (Jan 2025, HBR) "Work, as it stands today, often feels like a never-ending treadmill. We're constantly chasing higher productivity, better efficiency, and, paradoxically, we're ending up less satisfied and more burned out. " And thus, Fauxductivity is the result of employees trying to prioritize their own wellbeing at work. Well, in addition to the WFB, 'working from beach' headlines, a recent Gallup report has taken more headlines highlighting a significant decline in motivation over the last decade, with many workers feeling stressed, sad, or angry on the job. The research states that in 2023, global employee engagement stagnated, and overall employee wellbeing declined. There's been many reactions and workplace responses to this problem. One of the reactions is to label this phenomenon, "quiet quitting," referring to workers who no longer go above and beyond, significantly impacting the UK's productivity and potentially costing up to 11% of its GDP. MIT Sloan School of Management offers a fresh perspective, referring to these workers as engaging in "calibrated contributing." This a label I like. This reframe suggests that many employees aren't stepping back due to laziness but are instead making a calculated response to balance their effort with what they feel is a fair return from their employers. This concept of calibrated contribution is rooted in equity, emphasising the importance of fair exchange in motivation. And doesn't that prompts some essential question for leaders? ❓Are we truly recognising and valuing the efforts of our teams? ❓Are we providing the purpose and recognition that matches their contributions? Labels are easy and in some cases they're just lazy and in this case, dismissive. Labelling employees as disengaged quiet quitters misses a vital opportunity to reassess our approach to inspiring and rewarding our workforce. It's crucial to shift our focus toward creating environments where calibrated contributions are viewed as clear signals to leaders to create more aligned, engaged, and purpose-driven workplace climates. As leaders, isn't it about making people feel valued and ensuring their work is meaningful? #Leadership #EmployeeEngagement #WorkplaceCulture #Motivation #QuietQuitting #CalibratedContributors https://lnkd.in/eKDstV4r

Leave: A Right or a Privilege? The debate around employee leave often centers on whether it is a right or a benefit that needs to be earned. However, there’s a crucial balance that needs to be struck between organizational needs and employee well-being. While it's true that leave is not a matter of entitlement, it is also an essential tool for employees to maintain mental and physical health. Overlooking this can lead to burnout, decreased productivity, and ultimately, a decline in team morale. Allowing reasonable leave when needed demonstrates trust, fosters loyalty, and enhances long-term organizational success. Workplaces that understand this balance build stronger, more resilient teams. Remember, a well-rested employee is a productive employee! #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkLifeBalance #HR #Leadership #OrganizationalCulture
