Dynamic Line Ratings (DLR) are an innovative approach to operating transmission lines that allow electric utilities to utilize the true maximum safe capacity that can be transmitted through the lines (ampacity). Carrying more power on existing infrastructure allows utilities to save on transmission upgrades, reduce congestion, and ultimately save consumers money. DLR is made possible by different methodologies that measure the various properties in the field such as ambient weather conditions and temperature of the conductors on a transmission line. Data on conductor conditions and the surrounding environment are collected and used to calculate the DLR for the line. DLR has the potential to significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of the power grid. Implementations of the technology require no new construction and can be operational and provide benefits to the grid in months. As the electricity demand continues to grow from electrification, DLR will be an important piece of the puzzle for operators to adequately meet demand. Accelerating #electrification requires a massive investment in grids and #flexibility! ⚡ We urge the European Commission to: 🔜 Undertake an immediate reform of the TEN-E Regulation and Ten-Year Network Development Plan processes for both Transmission System Operators (#TSOs) and Distribution System Operators (#DSOs). 🚗 Address persistent hurdles at the national level, such as double taxation, to incentivise energy storage, including from electric vehicles. 📃 Provide guidelines on anticipatory planning for national authorities to facilitate the expansion, reinforcement and modernisation of grids. This is crucial for delivering our net-zero future. ✊ That is why we're calling on the new European Commission to deliver an Electrification Action Plan within its first 100 days❗️ Join our #100daysToElectrify call 👇 https://lnkd.in/esv9UjU5 AVERE - The European Association for Electromobility Chris Heron Katharina Kramer Raphaël Héliot

Great piece today in the The New York Times from Brad Plumer confirming what we know to be true: advanced conductors can play a major role in quickly adding transmission capacity to power grids. With lines offering more power capacity than any other #AdvancedConductor technology, VEIR is ready to contribute. https://lnkd.in/eygMwv_h

⚡ There is a vast ecosystem of Grid Enhancing Technologies (GET) or Innovative Grid Technologies (IGT) that can foster the strengthening of our powergrids, as highlighted by the last U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Liftoff report. They all bring different benefits - usually more transfer capability, better grid control, flexibility and resilience, and their combined use is key to develop the powergrids of the future. For transmission or distribution utilities, enhancing their grid with Advanced Conductors can yield significant benefits in a short period of time. Thanks to their strong and lightweight composite core, Epsilon Advanced Conductors allow do double the ampacity of an existing line with existing structures, and to reduce line losses by up to 30%. They are also an interesting choice for new lines, where they provide an optimized long term solution in terms of flexibility, efficiency and resilience. Active in multiple technology groups with fellow GETs innovators, Epsilon Cable is part of this journey towards smarter and more efficient electrical grids worldwide. The shift to electrified transportation is underway and #Utilities are working to ensure the grid can handle the increased demand needed to charge electric vehicles (EVs) as well as supporting demands on the grid in general such as the accelerating growth of data centers. To help manage the growing demand for EV charging, there are analytics-driven approaches, like Itron, Inc.'s distributed intelligence (DI) solution. Utilities can get real-time insight into EV charging patterns and control out to the grid edge, which is crucial to preventing grid overloads. #GridEdge #EVs One of our experts, Nick Tumilowicz, director of distributed energy management at Itron, shares insights in this T&D World article:
